For over a decade, Rothco and its employees have come together during the holiday season to raise money for local charities from Long Island, NY (Rothco's Hometown Area). Here at Rothco we realize how fortunate we are and are always looking for ways to give back to the community. Not only do we want to help financially, we also want people to be aware of these great causes. That is why we have asked several of the charities to highlight who they are and what they do.
This month we wanted to highlight Lighthouse Mission, located in Bellport, NY.
Lighthouse Mission: “Food for Today; Hope for Tomorrow”:
From this small start, Lighthouse Mission has grown to become Long Island’s LARGEST “Mobile Food Pantry”, bringing food and hope to 2,000+ Long Islanders in need across 9 local communities each week.
At each Mobile Food Outreach location, volunteers from the community join Lighthouse Mission staff members to distribute fresh produce, canned fruits and vegetables, dry goods, and more to their neighbors in need. All of these items are received through donations and brought from Lighthouse Mission’s Bellport warehouse to the outreach location.
Lighthouse Mission also works with dozens of troubled teens and underprivileged children from our area through its after-school mentoring programs and Saturday “Kids Club”, teaching them how to live with purpose rather than turn to drugs or gangs.
Combatting poverty on Long Island is a team effort, and Lighthouse Mission can use your help. They are looking for committed volunteers to serve at their Mobile Food Outreaches through the winter, people willing to hold a Food Drive at work or school, and also financial contributions to help cover the cost of running their programs.
