Taylor Swift Unveils a Fresh Beauty Era at the VMAs

Tonight, Taylor Swift graced the MTV Video Music Awards as the evening’s most-nominated artist. However, much to our bewilderment, the queen of subtle messaging stepped onto the pink carpet with a beauty look that didn’t align with any particular era we witnessed this summer during her tour.

Most notably, her iconic ruby red lipstick, a staple of her beauty statement, was absent. Swift has been collaborating with renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath, who recently disclosed that she wears Liquid LUST Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick in the shade Elson. Instead, her lips appeared natural and bare, adorned with just a hint of shine likely derived from a lip balm. Her hair was left wavy and unstyled, reminiscent of her Folklore and Evermore eras.

Elements of her reputational era were also evident. Given her history with the VMAs, including the infamous interruption by Kanye West thirteen years ago, it makes sense that she’d channel her most self-protective era for this event. Her cat-eye makeup was bold and sharply defined, with a smoky edge on the lower lashes, exuding a sense of confidence. She confidently showcased her leg through the slit in her dress, echoing the rebellious spirit of another famous red carpet figure, Angelina Jolie.

It’s surprising that Swift didn’t don baby blue attire and her trademark red lips at the VMAs, especially considering that “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” was set to release on October 27th. Perhaps, after traversing through the various eras individually over the summer, she’s now ready to embrace all of them and simply be herself.
