Ensure BJP wins all 9 states in 2023: Nadda to leaders at executive meet

BJP national president J P Nadda on Monday categorically asked his leaders to leave no stone unturned to see that the Party wins all the nine assembly elections this year, which will be held as a prelude to the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Out of the nine of states, the BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tripura and is part of the ruling coalition in Nagaland and Meghalaya.

“He urged the party to be ready with full commitment to see that Bjp Wins all nine states this year as a prelude to 2024. We should not lose a single state. Party workers have to tighten their belts and the party should not be defeated,” BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, quoting Naddin's speech at the two-day national executive meeting that began here on Monday.

Nadda said party cadres and state departments will have to follow what Gujarat did, where the BJP achieved an "extraordinary and historic victory" in the recent assembly elections. “The prime minister led the election from the front… and the state unit with all its leaders and workers worked from the booth level… Hard work and booth level work will have to be copied,” Prasad said. referring to Naddin's message to party workers.

Referring to the Himachal Pradesh debacle, Nadda said the party as an organization failed to read the intensity of the anti-incumbency factor and could not work to curb it, sources said. Nadda said the rebels were ignoring the party's interests, the source said.

"He [Nadda] said we have to break the cycle (of BJP and Congress coming to power on alternate terms) but we can't. BJP lost Himachal Pradesh by less than one percent of voters. The vote margin between Congress and BJP in Himachal Pradesh is close to 37,000. It is a matter of luck but we have to correct ourselves,” Prasad told reporters.

The BJP, which has made significant gains in terms of electoral victories but lost most of its traditional allies, maintained that the party has not abandoned any of its old partners. Asked whether the BJP would re-team with its former allies to ensure it wins states, Prasad said, “The BJP has not thrown out any of its allies. Shiromani Akali Dal and Nitish Kumar (of JD -U) left us. People who have moved on to greener political pastures will learn a lesson.” The veiled reference was to Kumar, who BJP leaders say is now trying to be the opposition parties' prime ministerial candidate.

The BJP is gearing up for elections in the key states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, where it expects a direct battle against the main opposition Congress later this year. In Telangana, another poll-bound state, the BJP is desperate to emerge as an alternative to the state's ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
