Best Valentino Colognes (2023) Full Review – Why You Need Them

Valentino Colognes.

Some of the classiest fragrances for men.

In this review, I will describe the five best Valentino colognes smell, performance, and anything else you need to know. You’ll want to learn more about these five.

#5 – Uomo Born in Roma Yellow Dream

The opening starts with a duo of mandarin orange and pineapple. It is exceptionally fresh, retaining this freshness for the rest of the wear. Orange is initially most prominent with a zingy nature. A sweet and fruity pineapple note lingers in the background, and it will progressively get more intense.

There’s a hefty dose of aromatics in the mid. The most notable are lavender and geranium. They contrast the citric and fruity nature in the opening while, you guessed it… retaining the fresh nature. In the background is a gingerbread note – yes, you read that right.

It is exceptionally warm and will become prevalent as the wear continues. The dry down simplifies. There is a decent dose of spices remaining, but the overarching emphasis is a warm vanilla and cedar combination for the rest of the wear.

This lasts six hours on the skin with decent projection for the first one to two hours. After this, it becomes a skin scent. As for seasons and occasions, it is all; apply more sprays in the winter.

#4 – Uomo Born in Roma Coral Fantasy

The opening starts with a noticeable sweet and juicy red apple, paired with nearly equal parts cardamom and bergamot. It’s a lot like fresh apple cider. This is a unique combination as the blend is exceptionally warm and creates a citric freshness with a prominent apple note. In the background are amber nuances for depth.

Within a few minutes is the newest addition of sage. It pushes out the citric bergamot and donates a significantly aromatic and fresh nature.

As the wear continues, the fruits weaken, and their void is filled by geranium and lavender freshness with a lingering tobacco depth. The geranium and lavender only amplify the already intense aromatic nature.

The base is dry and fresh. It’s all about the trio of aromatics with hints of earthy, woody patchouli, and vetiver combination in the background.

This lasts eight hours on the skin, with decent projection for the first two hours. After this period, it becomes a skin scent. It is all-season and occasion wear, but spray lighter in the heat of the summer.

#3 – Uomo

The opening is a distinct mixture of aromatic, nutty, sweet, and leathery accords. The aromatic nature comes from fresh bergamot. This is neither a fresh nor citric fragrance, but it does have an “energy” in the opening.

The sweet and nutty accords come from a prominent hazelnut note. While all sit atop a leathery depth. It’s not animalic and dark but rather a lighter leather accord.

The mid has a unique combination. Powdery iris and coffee add. The coffee blends best with the leathery backbone. At the same time, the powdery iris jumps to the forefront, mixing with the lingering bergamot. The main emphasis of these two is to bring a degree of energy to the fragrance.

The dry-down lacks the intense sweetness and nuttiness from before. I mainly get coffee and leather with woody accents for the rest of the wear. Interestingly, I didn’t pick up on much of a chocolate accord the entire wear.

Uomo lasts eight hours on the skin with moderate projection. The first hour, it pushes out an arm’s length. After this period, it recedes and maintains a one to two-foot ambiance for the rest of the wear. This is fall, winter, and early spring wear. As for occasions, it is best suited for dates and formal occasions.

#2 – Born in Roma Intense

The opening is a sweet blast of vanilla and soapy lavender. It is exceptionally clean, with woody vetiver nuances in the background for support. The vanilla is never too sweet and always wearable.

Vanilla begins to fade in the mid while powdery amber takes its place. This makes the fragrance exceptionally warmer. The woody vetiver in the background has picked up earthy hues.

Much of the aromatic lavender is gone in the base. There’s a subtle musk, warm wafts of amber, and subtly sweet woods left. This is what you’ll smell for the rest of the wear.

This lasts six hours on the skin with decent projection. The first three hours, it has a noticeable projection. After this period, it recedes to a light ambiance for the rest of the wear. This is all-season and occasion wear. However, spray lighter on the hottest days of summer.

#1 – Uomo Intense

Upon the first spray is a quick blast of tangy mandarin freshness. Now, it is present but not necessary. It almost immediately gets overpowered by the dominant iris. The opening is all about the iris with a lipstick vibe.

Clary sage does add a crisp, herbaceous boost to the opening. Yet, it’s mild because the iris is so strong. It’s the type of iris found in 2011 Dior Homme Intense rather than Prada Colognes.

As the scent progresses from the mid to the dry-down, vanilla creeps in. It adds sweetness and warmth but never comes across as sugary. Not long after, leather fuses with vanilla, and the two are inseparable for the rest of the wear.

As the Uomo Intense finishes, it is heavy, warm, and rich. All of these qualities amount to its ability to be so classy and sophisticated.

Uomo Intense lasts eight to ten hours on the skin with gentlemanly projection. It pushes out two to three feet for a large amount of wear. This is spring, fall, winter, and cool summer wear.

Final Words

The final burning question is, are Valentino colognes worth it? Yes. They are all reasonably priced with high-quality aromas. I recommend having at least one in a collection.
