Review: Chanel Coromandel EDP – Everything You Need To Know

Coromandel EDP.

One of the best performing Chanel fragrances.

Chanel Coromandel EDP was released in 2016. It is based on amber, wood, and spices. It lasts 10 – 12 hours on the skin with above-average projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Chanel Coromandel EDP Smell Like?

The opening starts off soft. Lead by equal parts warm benzoin and slightly earthy patchouli. At first, this duo is exclusive. But after a few minutes, neroli becomes present with nuances of other notes. The main idea is a blend of freshness to contrast the depth and warmth of the dominant top notes.

Powdery iris adds after some time. But it is more about the powdery nature than the smell of iris. This leads into the mid, where the top notes get gentler. Not in projection, but instead, they are smoother. The addition of incense to benzoin and patchouli follows this change. The trio is a perfect pair and really amplifies the classic nature of Coromandel EDP.

Soft resins initiate the dry down, followed by powdery vanilla. Primarily, it only amplifies the already powdery iris and gives the background a sweet tinge.

Deeper woods follow. Specifically, patchouli gets more authentic. This means its gains a woodier and slightly earthy quality. Yet, it never becomes dirty. Vanilla also gains strength, while soft resins soothe all. Both of these provide excellent balance to the patchouli.

Performance

Coromandel EDP lasts 10-12 hours on the skin with above-average projection. It pushes out an arm’s length or more for multiple hours before receding, never becoming a skin scent. The rest of the wear creates a pleasant ambiance around you.

The sillage is great as well. With the density of the amber and wood, it can stick in the air well and leave a lasting scent trail. This performance is with six sprays.

This is cool weather wear. Fall, winter, and early spring. As for occasions, it is all but best reserved for special events. Why? Because this is a unique blend of notes that stands out and projects like no other.

On the flip side, this is an easy fragrance to moderate. If you noticed, I use six sprays; this scent allows you to apply as much as you need for the situations you’ll be in. Are you going to be in the office all day? Apply lighter. Running errands? Apply six.

This may seem like a “No s**t” idea, but more so than other fragrances, this has a linear progression of projection with sprays.

Lastly, mass appeal and likability are excellent. For all the reasons above, it is so likable, quality, unique, and subtle.

Besuited Aroma gives Chanel Coromandel EDP a 9.2 out of 10 rating.

Final Words

The final burning question is, is Chanel Coromandel EDP worth it? Yes, but only for some people. This was built for special events, literally called “a perfume of art.” It isn’t worth it if you don’t attend many formal occasions or dates. If you have the situations to wear this, paying the hefty price tag is worth it.

My favorite aspect is the manageable sprays and projection. I don’t wear this for all occasions often because I get anxious about wasting it, but when I do, I appreciate being able to moderate the strength.

After you try Chanel Coromandel EDP, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
