How & Where To Store Jewelry to Keep it from Getting Damaged?

Are you one of those who keeps all your Jewelry in the same box? Do you have to untangle them every time you want to put on some jewelry? Many times it happens to us that we do not pay special care when storing our rings, earrings, bracelets, and pendants and that has consequences for the conservation of our accessories. An improper way of storing your jewelry can cause them to be damaged. Therefore, today we explain how to store jewelry so that this does not happen to you.

It is important that you follow these tips :

Basic Tips For Caring For Your Jewelry

  • Not any jeweler is worth it. Often we tend to store our earrings and rings in cardboard boxes and wooden or plastic jewelry boxes. That is a mistake, because our accessories may be damaged. The idea is to use a jewelry box, where our jewelry will be well protected from possible scratches.
  • With safety distance. Use a large jewelry box in which your jewelry can be separated. If there is enough space, you will prevent them from getting tangled. On the one hand, it will be more useful when using your jewelry. And, on the other (and no less important), you will keep them without scratches or tangles that, when undone, can cause them to break.
  • Run away from humidity. Jewelry must be kept at a mild temperature, neither too hot nor too cold. And, always, in a dry place, because humidity can deteriorate your earrings.
  • Don’t get sunlight. That could oxidize your jewelry, so try to keep your accessories in a closed box.
  • Cleaning is very important. Your jewelry also needs cleaning from time to time. Try to do it as we already explained in this other post to keep them correct.
  • Hang long accessories. Necklaces or earrings with pendants are best hung so they don’t get tangled or bent in areas where they can break. Do it on a hook or, failing that, extend these jewels when depositing them in their box, although in that case, you will need a larger jewelry box.
  • Close your jewelry. Chains, earrings, etc., must have their closure on to store them if you do not want them to deform or get caught where they should not.
  • Separate delicate pieces. There are jewels that have more delicate elements such as zircons, pearls, or diamonds that can come off or scratch other jewels. It is better that these types of accessories keep them separate from the rest.
