I don’t know about you but one of the few things that keep me sane during this dark and gloomy time of the year is thinking of my spring summer capsule wardrobe. And although it may seem a little too early to be getting excited about my spring style, I like to put a lot of thought into it.

So below you’ll find my ultimate spring capsule wardrobe checklist. From my go-to blazer, I can’t live without, to the most versatile pair of shoes – it has everything a girl can ask for in the new season.

SPRING CAPSULE WARDROBE: WHAT TO WEAR IN SPRING 2023:

For easier navigation, I always group my capsule wardrobes into easy pieces to follow. The first step is Tops, then moving to Sweaters, Outerwear, and Bottoms, and finishing off with Shoes. It won’t take a long time. Shall we dive in?

1. Plain White T-Shirt  

A plain high-quality cotton white tee is the foundation of any good year round capsule wardrobe. It’s just none negotiable. You must have at least one good-feeling and expensive-looking yet simple white T-shirt in your closet, even if it’s just for casual outfits. If you don’t have one, please correct this mistake immediately. Basic t-shirts – aka the basic tee – are a must, and my recommendation is The Organic Cotton Box-Cut Tee by Everlane.

2. Black Bodysuit  

Adding a nice basic black bodysuit to your spring season collection is a smart decision to make. Why? Because it’s a great option for different styles, as they go with EVERYTHING! Jeans and cardigan? Check! Faux leather leggings and blazer? Check! The options are limitless. Timeless designs that let your imagination run wild! My favorite bodysuit? This one. I got it last year, and I’ve been wearing it on repeat ever since.

3. Breton Stripe Tee  

If you’re anything like me, and you’re a fan of the French capsule wardrobe, do yourself a favor and invest in this Breton Stripe Tee by Boden. You won’t find a better fit online, I’m sure of it. 4. White Tank Top 

The white tank top has a special place in my summer capsule wardrobe, but after careful consideration, I’ve decided to add it to my spring one too. It’s for those warmer weather days when you don’t feel like doing anything at all. Just throw on a comfy pair of leggings, denim jacket, white sneakers, and two tall iced oat lattes.

5. Striped Shirt  

More versatile pieces that I’m borrowing from my fall capsule wardrobe this time, is the striped shirt. Buttoned up or down, it’s a great layering piece, and it spices up your spring outfits. I love it in a combination of a white tank top, blue skinny jeans, Converse sneakers. FYI, so does Kaia Gerber. The lesson here is, don’t wait around and get your hands on a stylish striped shirt to put in your own Spring capsule wardrobe. Layer pieces to create whole new outfits with what you already have.

6. White Shirt  

I’m sure we all have at least one classy button-down shirt in our closets. But if for some reason you don’t, or the one you have is well past its life span, my recommendation is the Everlane Boxy Oxford. Made of 100% organic cotton, it’s a total steal for the money. Think of the cost per wear, it works out to be less money in the long run! Avoid that fast-fashion brand you’re used to. Make better decisions.

Same as the striped shirt, I’m borrowing my stripe sweater from my fall closet to my spring 2023 capsule wardrobe. It’s one of the most worn tops I have, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Seriously, these gorgeous lightweight sweaters look beautiful with everything. From sweatpants to smart trousers, it’s one of those unexpectedly key pieces every girl should own. 

8. Collared V-Neck Sweater  

Never been into collared v-neck sweaters until now. They were not in my own personal capsule wardrobe, but you’ll see them a lot on my Instagram feed soon. I love this one from ARKET.

9. Beige Turtleneck  

I may sound like a broken record as the cotton turtleneck can be found in all my capsule wardrobes (apart from the summer one), but it’s a fundamental piece that just works. And it works well with whatever you wear. The whole point of creating a versatile capsule wardrobe is to have timeless pieces you can always rely on, so you never feel like you’ve got nothing to wear. Well, the beige turtleneck is one of these life-savers.

10. Half-Zip Sweater  

The half zip sweaters are my newest discovery. And it all started when I got my hands on this one. It’s one of the softest and warmest sweaters I own, and it’s so incredibly comfortable!! It’s not a surprise, as it’s made of extra fine responsibly made wool, which would explain the price. For spring weather, I recommend getting a neutral-colored one.

11. Crewneck Sweater  

Trust me when I tell you this. Having a good crewneck sweater in your wardrobe really makes a difference! It’s a piece you can wear over and over again, and never get bored of it. You can dress it up with a shirt underneath and your favorite heels for different looks at the office. Or dress it down with denim shorts and sneakers. 

12. Mock Neck Sweater  

When it comes to spring, we all think of birds singing and trees blooming, but what about those cold rainy days when you’re not sure whether it’s April or December? For these days, you need a cozy piece of clothing like this Mock Neck Sweater. I have a very similar one that carries me through all the gloomy spring days where all I want to do is to stay at home and watch Emily In Paris on repeat.

You might think spring is about bright colors, but I treated myself to this timeless black blazer from & Other Stories on Black Friday, and girl, hear me out – this is perhaps the BEST investment you can make for your spring work capsule wardrobe. The fit is insanely gorgeous. It really levels up your personal style game. You can dress it up or down according to the occasion, and the compliments are guaranteed.

14. Beige Overshirt  

Overshirts (also known as shakets) are a wonderful spring staple, you can mix and match in so many different ways to make outfit combinations. For example, feeling bloated and don’t know what to wear? Grab your comfiest pair of leggings, style them with a plain white top, chunky trainers, and throw on this Oversized Overshirt of the same color palette, on top. Très chic! Maybe even opt for a denim shirt. A transitional top for transitional weather.

15. Cropped Cardigan  

I love cropped cardigans as they can be worn all year round. Practical, versatile clothes are all we need. So if you don’t have a go-to everyday cardi, not adding this one to your spring essentials, would be a miss if you don’t have similar items. 

16. Trench Coat  

Get a good trench coat and let it do all the work for you, whilst you sit back and enjoy all the compliments thrown your way. I found the perfect one from & Other Stories, and I’m adding it to my spring wishlist this year. I recommend you do too.

17. White Puffer  

If you’re wondering why the heck is a puffer coat is making an appearance in this spring capsule wardrobe list, let me remind you that the official start date of spring is March 20th when the warm weather is still pretty chilly. I found the ideal spring coat, and it’s this stunning Relaxed Padded Puffer. It’s going straight into my own closet.

18. Denim Jacket  

Same as the trench coat, the denim jacket is an absolute must-have that will carry you through spring and beyond. The best ways to get a great jean jacket? Levis of course! I wear my sherpa trucker on rotation with straight-leg jeans all spring. It’s such a good investment.

Earlier this year I purchased these flared trousers and this was one of the best fashion decisions I’ve made!! They look so beautiful on. The fitted design elongates the silhouette and makes your legs look so long they would make Gisele Bündchen jealous. Definitely a must-have wardrobe staple!

20. Mom Jeans  

These are the most worn favorite pair of jeans I own, and I can’t recommend them enough. They’re comfy, fit perfectly around the waist and on the hips. Even better than wide-leg pants. The best trends of the 90s withstand the test of time, and that’s why these straight jeans are still around. From Princess Di to Queen B. As far as fashion goes, they get the royal approval. I can just imagine Dianna saying, “One does well to pair such white jeans with button-down shirts, a brown belt, and loafers.”

21. Faux Leather Leggings  

I’ve been on the search for the best (read: comfortable and flattering) faux leather leggings out there for my spring wardrobe, and I discovered this pair. Honestly, unless you try them for yourself, you won’t believe how soft and comfy they are. Do you dare to pair them with a faux leather jacket? They are one of my favorite ways to dress up whilst being comfortable.

22. Two-Piece Suit  

When it comes to suits, everyone has their own preference. For me, and my Spring Capsule Wardrobe, what I’m looking for in a suit is – versatile neutral colors (hence why I always go for neutrals), relaxed fit, and eye-catching detail. I have my eyes on this lovely piece from 12 STOREEZ. The easiest way to level up is to suit up.

23. Everyday Dress  

Having a good go-to everyday spring dress makes a huge difference. After evaluating my spring capsule wardrobe 2022, I realized that I don’t have a single dress that’s elegant yet wearable on a daily basis. I’m planning to change this immediately with this gorgeous piece. It’s the perfect length whatever the occasion.

24. Shirt Dress 

I’m a massive fan of shirt dresses, and can you blame me?! They are the unexpected staple for your warm spring capsule wardrobe that probably hasn’t ever crossed your mind. But with the likes of Emrata and Ciara showing their dressy outfits, fashion editors take notice, and I hope you’ll now recognize this gem for the diamond it is. When it comes to comfortable shoes and my spring capsule wardrobe, I stick to a handful of pairs, including my all-time favorite Converse, chunky white trainers (considering adding the VEJA ones to my footwear collection this year as I need to retire my old pair), and my beloved vegan Flamingo’s Life 70s-inspired sneakers. 

The chunky lace-up flat shoes are the new pieces I’ve added. You will see me wearing them on heavy rotation, as they turned out to be very practical and pair well with all my wardrobe possessions. 

And lastly, I’m not really a sandal girl or into ballet flats, but approaching the age of 30 has made me reconsider some of my classic style choices, so I’m planning to give the classy flatform slides a chance this spring/summer.
