My Self-Care Routine and How to Make Yourself a Priority

Self-care is sort of a buzzword right now… but with good reason!

I think we can all agree we can use some self-care right about now. To me, self-care isn’t about bubble baths and chocolate cake (although I’m a big fan of both!) It’s more about taking time to refuel so I can take care of the people I love.

I’d love to share my self-care Routine with you and I hope you make taking care of yourself a priority in 2021.

The first thing I do in the morning:

It sounds silly and everyone probably does this, but I go to the bathroom then brush my teeth and wash my face. This is after my alarm goes off and I’ve hit snooze about 5 times! It’s super important to have a routine, to keep to it even if it’s the smallest thing like brushing your teeth.

Three things I try to do every day:

  1. I try to always put on my makeup and do my 15-minute makeup which honestly give me more reason to go out and feel more like myself.
  2. I also try to go for a walk with my dog, because working from home and sitting in front of the computer all day is not healthy for sure!
  3. I try to do some level of home organizing or business organizing (list making, calendar updating, etc.) because that just keeps me and my mind sane!

Social media accounts I follow for positivity:

If you are not following my girl Kim Swarner @purposeinthepink then you are missing out on a ton of pink and colorful outfits and mental health positivity. Also, my Insta soul sister Abbe Feder @absofstyle she offers advice and empowerment for women going through infertility as well as a stylish spin on the cutest mom-friendly outfits! My fellow AZ content creator Aiesha Beasley @aieshabeasley shares the most fun and Insta-worthy spots in Arizona as well as having great street style she is the sweetest girl and scrolling her feed will make you so happy!

My favorite way to break a sweat:

Hot yoga or if you have tried CorePower Yoga, the “Sculpt” class is sooooo amazing and you are super duper sore (a good sore)

My go-to healthy snack:

Light Laughing Cow cheese with apples and I love almonds or a smoothie!

My favorite indulgence:

Anything chocolate….. need I say more? But for healthy chocolate, Lily’s stevia chocolate is great to take care of that craving.

My current feel-good song:

So my kids have been listening to Kids Bop on XM in the car a lot, and I’ve been totally digging Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga’s duet “Rain On Me” which is super female-empowering and has a great beat that makes you want to dance in your seat! Check out the video here

I can’t go the bed without doing this:

There are a few things I absolutely have to do before bed, so here is my routine and products that I use.

  1. Take all of my vitamins and meds including a magnesium supplement.
  2. Remove all of my makeup and wash my face, moisturize and apply my under eye cream too.
  3. I absolutely have to apply some essential oils to the back of my neck and temples – Stress Away is my go to, and smells sooo yummy, almost like vanilla bean!

What’s making me the happiest right now:

Right now, it’s the little things, like getting my kids to listen to me, having a clean and organized house, all of the laundry is folded, and not being stressed out. I think finding the little things in life right now to make you happy is super important because the big stuff is a bit too much to take on.
