Monsterror Dress Review | Unique Vintage

Spooky season is here! And what are you doing to celebrate? Watching scary movies, carving pumpkins, and binging candy? Me too. But I am also swooning over Unique Vintage’s new Halloween collection! Every year they knock my stockings off with selections from lots of popular reproduction companies, and their very own house brand creations. When I saw the Monsterror Dress, I knew I had to have it!

Me being happy while I was in a graveyard.

I purchased this off of the Unique Vintage website. It retails at $110, and is part of the cutest selection. There are a few other places you can get their clothing, but I enjoy the rewards program and the customer service from their site. This pattern is formally known as the Hedda dress. The Hedda comes in multiple colorways and patterns. Of course, I went for the brightest, loudest, most crazy one. Are we surprised?

The Monsterror Dress is part of the universal monsters collection, which means it features prints inspired by characters such as Frankenstein, Dracula, werewolves, and mummies. I love this whole idea because it means that you can wear this dress year round! You can have those creepy vibes without being overtly Halloween or look too festive out of season.

You’d be smiling here too if you had this bomb dress.

In fact, the print is such that I don’t feel it’s obvious what the pattern is until you get up close to it. From far away, you just look fun and colorful. The print looks like it could be a mashup of comic books or movie posters, and features the word “monsterror” in a horror themed font. All of my favorite characters are included! There’s the wolfman, Dracula, the creature from theblack lagoon, Frankenstein’s monster, bride of Frankenstein, and the mummy. As you can see we have an all-star cast of characters!

Not only that, but there is an all star cast of colors as well! The bright yellow, teal, magenta, deep purple, pumpkin orange, and acid green come together to make a really fun palette. It also gives you a lot of styling options in terms of which colors you want to bring out. Depending on how you accessorize you can have totally different looks from this one dress!

The colors look so pretty in the light!

The sizing is fairly standard. You can get this frock in a size XS to size 5XL! Typically, I am a size medium. The medium was a little loose, but I believe that was the intended fit for this particular dress. If you want a tight fit, I might order a size down on this one. But if you’re planning on eating a bunch of sweets on the 31st like I am, stay true to size with the monsterror!

As far as the quality goes, I feel like it’s reasonable for the price. Believe it or not, this is the first item I’ve owned from Unique Vintage’s house brand! I have ordered off there lots, but it’s always been what they stock through other companies. There is a difference in quality between the house brand and the others. For example, the fabric is lighter and the cuts aren’t as structured. There were also a few strings loose, but nothing I couldn’t just easily snip off with a pair of scissors.

However, this doesn’t bother me because this is reflected in the price. All of the dresses are close to $100, and have very unique, cute designs. And don’t get me wrong. These are still well made dresses! Just know that you aren’t going to be as heavy duty as some of the other reproduction brands out there.

Overall, I am very happy with the monsterror dress! The price is a good deal for the quality, and you aren’t going to fins anything quite like it anywhere else! As I mentioned before, this isn’t something you feel like you can wear around Halloween only, but all throughout the year, so you can get your money’s worth. You can even make it work through all types of weather by changing up the accessories. If you want to purchase the dress, you can get it here.

Gettin sassy in the Monsterror.

The monsterror dress in Ahrodite approved! If you like the idea but maybe this dress is a little bold for you, or perhaps it just isn’t your thing, I would still recommend checking out the Halloween section on Unique Vintage. There will be something there to catch your eye, universal monsters themed or otherwise!

A huge thank you goes to my photographer John, of A. Eye Photography! We braved the heat and a fat shirtless man and got some great images. He has created some really interesting, creative images on photoshop from this same shoot that are perfect for October. Keep an eye out on my Instagram for those! They’re gonna be super cool, or you can go check out his Instagram here.
