Being tall is a benefit in the fashion industry, but plenty of models make it big. But tall is not the only need, since becoming one of the industry’s most successful runway models requires a lot of effort and is no easy task. But why are tall models in such high demand? 

And who are the fashion industry’s tallest female models? Why were they (and continue to be) so successful?

Let us take a deeper look at one of our society’s most exclusive and demanding sectors, as well as the world’s tallest models of all time, to have a better understanding of it. 

Ana Hickmann (6’1’’/ 1.85 m) 

Hickmann, a model and now a TV host, is one of the tallest models in the world and one of the models with the longest legs. Her 46.5-inch legs were initially mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records as “the model with the longest legs.” And a businesswoman who has worked for Victoria’s Secret, Nivea, L’Oreal, Wella, Clairol, and Bloomingdales.

She has been on the covers of Brazilian Vogue, Marie Claire, and Elle, the South African edition of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and the Italian edition of GQ. She presently co-hosts a daytime television show in Brazil and has clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, and accessories.  

Hana Soukupova (6’1’’/ 1.85 m) 

Besides being one of the world’s tallest models, Hana Soukupova is also the busiest. She has appeared on the covers of over 100 magazines and has walked in over 500 performances.

She also spends her time caring for her two children and, when she can, volunteering to help young contemporary artists and charity foundations.

At the age of 15, she received her first significant modeling contract as the face of Carolina Herrera’s Chic perfume. She began playing basketball for a local team at 5 because of her height. 

Oluchi Onweagba (6’0’’/ 1.83 m) 

Oluchi Onweagba, a Nigerian model, is imposingly tall and incredibly toned, which is why Sports Illustrated chose her for several covers. She has also appeared on Vogue, Elle, and i-D and walked the runways for Gucci, Chanel, Givenchy, and Fendi, among others.

She has modeled for brands such as Gianfranco Ferré, Lancôme, Ann Taylor, Clinique, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Banana Republic, Gap, Express, L’Oreal, and Coca-Cola, as well as working as a print model for Victoria’s Secret for six years at the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  

Julia Stegner (6’0’’/ 1.83 m) 

Sportive Julia Stegner may be one of the most reclusive models in the industry, but we adore her for it. She was born in Germany and spends her time cycling and staying outside when she is not modeling for the world’s most prestigious companies. In Paris, she appeared on the cover of Elle magazine for the first time.

Supreme Management eventually signed and opened the fall 2003 Yves Saint Laurent show four months later. She featured on the cover of Vogue in 2003 and did advertisements for Strenesse and Sportmax, among others (French, Italian, Nippon, and German editions).

She had done advertisements for Celine, Yves Saint Laurent, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ralph Lauren by 2004 and Dior. She has also modeled for Hugo Boss for multiple seasons. 

Ana Beatriz Barros (5’11’’ ¼ / 1.81 m) 

Brazilian shocker Ana Beatriz Barros is one of the most successful tall models in the fashion world and one of the best bikini models of all time, having appeared many times in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She has also been a brand ambassador for Chanel cosmetics, promoting their high-end makeup products due to her angelic, gorgeous face.

Christian Dior, Armani Jeans, Oakley, L’Oréal, Diesel, Victoria’s Secret, Chanel cosmetics, and Jennifer Lopez’s JLO fashion line are among the brands Barros has created advertising. Jennifer Lopez chose Barros as the face of her new lingerie line, JLO Lingerie, in 2004. 

Gisele Bündchen (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Bündchen, a tall Brazilian legend credited with ending the “heroin chic” modeling style in the late 1990s, is often regarded as the best supermodel of the decade. She isn’t just any tall model; she is one of the most powerful in the profession and a strong supporter of numerous charities.

Missoni, Chloé, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Gianfranco Ferré, Ralph Lauren, and Versace all used Bündchen in their advertisements. She was also featured on every cover of Vogue Paris, with her first cover of a British Vogue, as well as i-D, which profiled “A Girl Called Gisele.” 

Daria Werbowy (5’11″/ 1.80 m) 

Daria Werbowy, who stands 5’11” and began her modelling career at 14, when she won a national modelling contest, is one of the most successful tall models. She has walked in several well-known fashion shows and is a Lancôme brand ambassador. She spends her free time sailing when she isn’t fronting designer campaigns.

She has modelled for Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Hermés, Prada, Missoni, Versace, Celine, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Valentino, Dior, Lancôme, Zara, Balmain, Jean Paul Gaultier, David Yurman, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Isabel Marant, DSquared2, Loewe, Diane Von Furstenberg and Adriano Goldschmied. 

Kate Grigorieva (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Russian models, like Brazilians, have the most beautiful looks and flawless bodies. Therefore Kate’s inclusion on our list comes as no surprise. Kate was a Victoria’s Secret Angel from 2015 to 2016. She is a Victoria’s Secret Angel and one of the most sought-after runway models, having walked for Givenchy, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and several other designers. 

Barbara Fialho (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Barbara Fialho, who stands at 5’11”, is one of the tallest models in Brazil. Barbara, who has been playing the guitar since the age of nine and studied music at Juilliard, is also one of the most musical models. She also recorded a bossa nova album with Damon Martin in 2014, which became a hit, on which she sings every song and plays guitar on a few of them.

Abraham Laboriel and Justo Almario are among her musicians. In 2017, she released a single called Samba e Amor, where Seu Jorge worked, described as one of her favorite musicians. 

Vanessa Moody (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

American Moody first walked the runway for Balenciaga in 2014, and she has been a fan of the brand ever since. She has also worked with Dior, Lacoste, Chanel Beauty, Zara, and Valentino and has attended practically every Alexander Wang show. Moody was named a “Top Newcomer” by models.com in 2014. She is currently classified as a “Money Girl.” In 2017, Moody took part in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. 

Amanda Murphy (5’11″/ 1.80 m) 

Amanda’s best attributes are her long legs and gorgeous broad smile, which have helped her become one of the most inspiring tall models in the industry.

She has worked with Prada, Trussardi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Celine, and other valuable companies since her debut in 2009, both walking their shows and featuring in their marketing campaigns.

She is most recognized for being a Prada muse and for being named one of models.com’s Top 50 models in the fashion business. Appearing on the cover of Vogue Italia on two occasions. 

Catherine McNeil (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Catherine McNeil was named one of Vogue’s top 30 models of the 2000s, and she is also one of the most inspiring. She was discovered at 14 and has appeared in shows for Dior, Balenciaga, Valentino, and Louis Vuitton, among others. Catherine was also included in the 2010 Pirelli Calendar. She has a total of 108 tattoos on her body; the bulk of them are on her back. 

Blanca Padilla (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Blanca Padilla is one of the world’s tallest models, a Dolce & Gabbana muse, and a well-known brand ambassador for the fashion business. In October 2017, she named the new face of Givenchy Beauty. In 2015, she was found on the Madrid subway and walked in dozens of shows for Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Versace, and Victoria’s Secret. 

Claudia Schiffer (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Claudia Schiffer is the face of one of the industry’s most glamorous eras, and she is both talented and dazzling. She, like Adriana Lima, may appear small at first glance. Therefore many people may be astonished to learn that she is a tall supermodel who stands at 5’11”. She has been on over 1000 magazine covers and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the model with the most magazine covers. Forbes assessed her net worth at around US$55 million in 2002. 

Erin Heatherton (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Heatherton, best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret, was spotted while on vacation by legendary modeling scout Arri Taylor. She appears in numerous magazines and runway displays, tall and toned, season after season. D, Grazia, Velvet, Elle (Serbia, Russia, France, and the Czech Republic), GQ (Spain, UK, Mexico, and Germany), Beauty in Vogue, Ocean Drive, Russh, L’Officiel Hommes 2, Flair, and Muse have all featured her on their covers since then. 

Toni Garrn (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Garrn is a German fashion model and actress who is also one of Victoria’s Secret’s tallest models and one of the industry’s most hardworking names. She is a Calvin Klein devotee. Karlie Kloss is another tall model’s BFF. Garrn’s credits include covers for Numéro, German, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, and Thai Vogue, German and South African GQ, W, Madame Figaro, Muse, Harper’s Bazaar, Allure, Glamour, The Edit, and Grazia. 

Rachel Hunter (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

The New Zealand-born model has been on numerous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers. Rachel Hunter began her profession when she was 17 years old. Hunter is now the host of Rachel Hunter’s Tour of Beauty on Imagination Television, and she is well-known for her philanthropic activities. Vogue, Elle, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Playboy, Cosmopolitan, and Harper’s Bazaar were among the magazines she appeared in. She has appeared on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue two times: once in 1994 (with Kathy Ireland and Elle Macpherson) and again in 2006. 

Shalom Harlow (5’11’’/ 1.80 m) 

Canadian Shalom Harlow rose to popularity in the mid-1990s due to her excellent walking talents and has since starred in several high-end fashion campaigns, including those for Gucci, Valentino, and Marc Jacobs, as well as six American Vogue covers between 1993 and 1997. She is an “anti-supermodel” and has hosted MTV’s House of Style. She was also spotted at a The Cure performance in Toronto, one of the world’s tallest models yet had a punk-rock heart! 

Doutzen Kroes (5’10” ½/ 1.79 m) 

Doutzen Kroes, a super-tall model who was voted “Model of the Year” by Vogue.com readers, is one of the industry’s most inspiring personalities of all time. She is usually on the front row to promote a healthy lifestyle and humanitarian organizations or events. She had never really considered modeling before sending photographs to modeling firm Paparazzi Model Management in Amsterdam in 2003, despite describing herself as a “tomboy” in her adolescence. 

Kendall Jenner (5’10’’ ½/ 1.79 m) 

Kendall Jenner is a prominent face of the current generation of supermodels and is now one of Victoria’s Secret’s most acclaimed models. Jenner went for Chanel, Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Giles Deacon, Fendi, N°21, H&M, Balmain, Givenchy, Elie Saab, and Ports 1961.

Jenner appeared in Balmain x H&M ad campaigns and walked in the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Marie Claire Indonesia, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, Vogue China, and LOVE were among the publications Jenner shot covers and editorials. 

The measurement criteria may differ depending on the type of model one wishes to become (for example, a runway or lingerie model). On the other hand, being tall is a distinct benefit in the industry, especially if one dreams of a glamorous career parading down catwalks.

Because the clothing fits better visually, especially in terms of perspective, the taller the model is, the better the clothes fit. According to prestigious associations such as AMA or the British Association of Model Agents, a female model’s minimum height is 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m).

At the same time, many consider it a model to be tall when standing at roughly 5’9″ (1.75 m) to 5’11” (1.75 m) (1.80 m) also. Other conventional measurements are 32″– 34″ for the bust, 23″– 25″ for the waist, and 33″– 35″ for the hips, depending on the build (as you will see, the tallest models of all time are all different in terms of figure, as we women, in general, all differ in shapes).

However, success is measured in more ways than one’s height in the industry, implying that becoming an iconic model requires more than just height.
