In recent developments, the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja has issued a landmark ruling as it has stopped President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration from implementing their policy of arresting or prosecuting Nigerians using Twitter.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) lead by lawyer and senior advocate Femi Falana, and 176 concerned Nigerians challenged the decision by the Federal government on the unlawful protection of the users of Twitter.

Femi Falana said: “This court has jurisdiction to hear the case. The court also .by orders that the application be heard expeditiously. The Nigerian government must take immediate steps to implement the order.”

“It is extremely embarrassing that the Federal Government could threaten to jail Nigerians for sedition, which was annulled by the Court of Appeal in 1983, in the case of Arthur Nwankwo vs The State”,
