Spring/Summer 2020 Collection at NYFW: Helmut Lang

A white industrial space and the soundtrack of electronic beats is what welcome the audience at Helmut Lang’s Spring/Summer 2020 Collection at the New York Fashion Week. Mark Thomas, creative director for men’s and women’s, and Thomas Cawson, creative director for jeans, put up a collection that was minimalist yet not boring.

The designer duo picked up and evolved a little from where they had left the collection last season. The collection aimed at refining the era of the 90’s. The tailoring was impeccable. The outfits were well color-coordinated (mostly monochromatic). The silhouettes were sleek and simple. The addition of utilitarian parkas, the chromed leather and the various experiments with denim shapes gave the collection a modern touch. Overall, Mark Thomas and Thomas Cawson stayed true to the label’s originality with their deconstructed aesthetics.
