Carly Cushnie’s Fall/Winter Collection was chic, elegant and sensual. The London born designer took inspiration from twenties designer Paul Poiret, his draping style and his famous Japanese-inspired silhouettes. The collection also drew inspiration from the simplistic elegance and asymmetry of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement  and the geometric folds found in “Shadowplay,” a series by Dutch artist, Nicola Kloosterman.

The palette for this collection was that of deep purple, navy, and burgundy – a complete ode to Poiret, along with the use of bright lavender and metallic’s. Plush velvet’s and fluid silks were used for slip dresses and draped frocks.Suits  in modern shapes and tailored jackets with flared pants and fur coats rounded up the collection. The work was of intricate embroideries and refined prints. Giving a glimpse of traditional Japanese wood-blocking, Cushnie used both geometric and floral designs in her collection.
