HAIR | 5 Heat Protectants I Use Everytime I Style My Hair

Tags: hair heat spray

I never thought about how much I use Heat protectant until I looked around and saw just how many bottles of the stuff I had and just how empty most of them alllmost were (I’m terrible at sticking to one)! If you have coloured Hair, you will understand just how important using a heat protectant can be as it keeps colour in your hair for longer, but in general protects hair from damage from heat styling tools and UV light. A lot of protectants also hydrate, add shine and help to improve hair texture so even if you don’t have coloured hair, this isn’t a bad product to add to your haircare routine!

Kerastase and Rene Furterer products are PR. Rest purchased by me.

Aveda Brilliant Damage Control Detangling Spray

I prefer sprays when it comes to heat protectant and this one from Aveda smells really good (like all of Aveda’s products) and can be used on towel-dried hair prior to using a hair dryer and though it doesn’t say it in the instructions, I use it on dry hair before flat iron curling as well. It also protects hair from breakage which is a plus for me as I actually have to be SUPER gentle when brushing my hair because it is so brittle. There are also a number of plant-based ingredients like green tea, aloe and calendula flower extract that help to hydrate and strengthen the hair shaft.

Gisou Propolis Infused Heat Protecting Spray

This was my first Gisou purchase and as much as I hate buying “influencer products”, Negin Mirsalehi and her bees sort of mesmerized me so I decided to pick this up during one of the VIB sales last year. This is a propolis-infused spray, containing the same propolis from Negin’s family bee farm, which can be used prior to blow drying and heat styling up to 230 degrees Celsius. It also has a UV filter to protect hair from sun damage. I have been using this spray the most for its multifunctional purposes, but the only thing I have a hard time with is how strong the scent is. I actually have to spray my hair in a different room because I find the scent so overwhelming. I don’t think I would actually purchase this again based on that, but it actually is a great product.

Rene Furterer Spray Thermoprotecteur*

I have never used Rene Furterer haircare before because it’s not easy to find here in stores. I have personally never seen it. This spray is very similar in function to the Gisou one minus the UV filter and propolis. It also has an anti-frizz component which is great for flat ironing hair straight. Though the scent sort of reminds me of a salad, it is SUPER strong so you need to spray in a well-ventilated area.

Kerastase Blond Absolu Cicaplasme*

This is a cream that I use when I am blonde which is now and for the foreseeable future and I use this only on towel dried hair as I don’t really like using creams just before curling my hair. This cream is a great option for damaged hair that no longer responds to dimethicone as it contains amodimethicone which is in the silicone family, but specifically attaches to damaged hair to give a smooth finish.

Aveda Shampure Thermal Dry Conditioner

I am almost finished this bottle because the Aveda Shampure scent is one of my all-time favourite scents! I also have the bath oil and hand cream so when I first saw this “thermal dry conditioner” I was immediately fascinated because this was both a heat protectant and leave-in conditioner. This has now been repackaged as the “Heat Relief Thermal Protector and Conditioning Mist” which just goes to show how long ago I got it! 2017, I think? Regardless, I love using this so I will definitely pick up another bottle at my next hair appointment next month!
