Have you ever asked your parents about the Fashion of the 20th century or if you are an senior citizen, then, it can be your personal experience.

It was another boring weekend when I was sitting in the balcony and reading a article from Vogue fashion magazine as usual. Then, my mom came and sat with me. She asked me about what I am reading? At that time, a question popped up in my mind and I asked her,”what she used to wear in her college days?”. Because, I was very curious to know about it. She shared a wonderful experience and told lots of things to me. Today, I want to share those things with you in my words with my personal views.

I can’t describe the fashion of the 20th century in a blog because it’s requires more than just a blog. So, I will share a general overview of that period, as my mom told me.

According to my mom at that time, fashion was not limited only for clothing but it included accessories and hairstyle as well. Technologies and machine were also available in that period. They used to get their clothes sew by the tailors. Also, many companies for ready-to-wear also started up and took this as a business. It’s another part, they all are called now luxury designers and fashion icons. Because, they pick up the thought at the right time.

At that peak time, women started to go in the beauty salons for make overs and especially for hair styles and started picking up the varieties in clothing. Because, by then they were also aware about fashion trends. The 20th century was the time of rise of some of the fashion designers. Today’s popular names of the fashion industry like Coco Chanel, Valentina, Betsey Johnson, Miuccia Prada and more had started up at that time with just few of their basic statements. Now, they all set a benchmark in the fashion industry and have made a space in the person’s heart by their innovations in fashion.

My mom also told me that they started to go to in the fashion shows to know more about fashion trends. Because, now designers wanted to create awareness about new technologies in the fashion industry so they started to organizing the fashion shows. My mom’s first designer dress was a bell bottom with a top and coat by Coco Chanel. Ball bottom, long skirts, dresses, with frills and long sleeves were the fashion trends of that period. Bags and footwear’s were also a key factor of the stunning looks.

So, this is a small overview of 20th century fashion. For today, let’s finish this with the quote of my ideal Coco Chanel, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.“

As we all know, as of now in the 21th century fashion industry look like non-stoppable innovations. So, we will discuss about 21th century fashion statements in the next blog.
