Interview: Lisette Geller For The Love Of Denim

Tags: denim

This week we introduce you to Lisette Geller, Managing Editor at Denimology.com.  This interview is dedicated to all and all Denim Lovers

What is Denimology?

Denimology is an international denim blog. We are dedicated denim fans, always on the hunt for what’s new and trending. Denimology is  also writing about denim manufacturers all over the world, keeping our readers updated in what’s new in the denim fabric world – like sustainability, new denim fabrics, and denim treatments.

We thrive to cover all aspects of denim, starting with posting lookbooks, celebrities in denim, trend predictions, we assist trade shows to learn about the newest evolution, and visit showrooms to checkout collections…. and much more.

I started as a contributor to Denimology about 8 years ago and have been the managing editor for 3 years. I live, love, and breathe (in) denim. Ever since I was in high school, I have had a big love affair with denim, and it stayed this way until today. I love all aspects of denim: the fabric, washes, styles, especially the feel of denim. Personally I consider myself a real denimhead, preferring selvedge and heavier weight jeans – no skinny stretch jeans with the feel of spandex ever for me.

1. What sparked your interest in Denim and drove you to be with Denimology?

I grew up in the fashion world, my family was in fashion. I was taken along to anything fashion since I was a small kid, and I always wrote a lot of what I saw and thought. To write about denim was a logical next step – as I had been a denim addict since for-ever. Communicating with the denim world – this opportunity was given to me by the Denimology’s publisher and I am deeply grateful that through him I have found my real “niche” in life.

2. How do you balance creativity with commerce?

By being brutally objective and cold minded. When I write about denim, I always try to be objective. This is another reason why I refrain from posting images of me in any denim brand on social media. As an editor, you need to be impartial and just communicate by writing about it to your readers that “it is what it is” and not that “it is what I think it is”. As far as I can tell, this has always worked well commercially spoken, because I can write about any brand, any denim style, whatever there is – just saying what it is and not saying that you NEED to wear this or that.

3. What is the hottest upcoming denim trend for SS/18.

Straight leg jeans made with rigid denim or very little stretch , denim trousers in borrowed-from-the-men’s styles, as well as wide leg denim trousers.

Shop Wide-Leg Jeans here!

4. Denim brands you think are ruling the roost in: the luxury category; the high end category; the fast fashion category.

Luxury: Balmain, Y/Project, and Vetements

High End: Definitely PRPS‘s Noir line

Fast Fashion: Totally Blank NYC They carry every single trend, constantly re-new their denim lines, and offer super accessible prices.

5. An upcoming brand or designer you would watch out for?

Definitely Canadian denim brand Triarchy. As for non-denim brands: I.AM.GIA.

6. What has been the biggest hit in denim trends last season?

Cropped jeans with frayed and unfinished hems, super high waisted denim.

7. Denims has been eternal, Which fashion decade you think has introduced us to the best Denim trend!

Definitely the 70’s when denim first started to become a recognized fashion item

8. What are your go-to online resource for style inspiration/ news?

Online resource – Denimology LOL, My style inspiration, well, I create them myself – they kind of “come to me”!
In terms of news, I read about fashion anytime, anywhere -I have no preference all goes, online blogs, magazines, ad campaigns and especially the trade shows where I can see all the new trends before they even hit the stores.

9. If you had to curate a capsule wardrobe, what would be your top five picks?

Skinny jean, Boyfriend jean, Black sweatshirt, White basic t-shirt, Hi-top sneakers.

10. Which celebrity you think is slaying the denim look effortlessly now a days?

The Hadid sisters. Rihanna used to be super cool, but she’s been kind of laying low lately…. really I miss her individual and outrageous denim styling!
