Challenge: Can You Pull Off The Quirkiest Sunglasses Of The Season?

My glasses say a lot about me, because, I think me in a pair of Sunglasses is an image that a lot of people recognise.”

Yes, what Victoria Beckham said in an interview with Vogue really continues to linger in my mind even a year later. Because, how can you forget a face with sunglasses? It’s a lot more memorable and not just another in the crowd of commons, don’t you think?

This is why I always carry a pair of shades in my bag, no matter what the season… although, I’ve never been able to articulate my reasons as well as Victoria did. But then, she’s one of the most photographed women in the world, and me, I’m the main lead in my humble but admittedly glamorous life. So, here’s what I propose. Instead of the same cat-eye, aviators, butterfly sunnies and what not, I dare you to try something different this season.

On my Top 10 list are these quirky sunglasses, one for every price point, to tap into the diva within you. Challenge accepted?

Anna Karin Karlsson Sunglasses, £804

I’m loving how Anna Karin Karlsson has elevated a simple pair of sunglasses with butterfly motifs on the face of the frame. Yes, the blue lenses are a great addition, and the thick stems have me thinking, this will be a heavy-weight but comfortable and sturdy pair.

Gucci Black Crystal Cat Eye Sunglasses, £430

You’ve got to love how Gucci keeps its retro chic aesthetic intact, season after season. So, is it any wonder they nailed the brief with these cat eye sunnies? And, seriously, what’s more glamorous than crystal studded frames set on a black canvas? Pop! In true Gucci style, the make is top quality too. You’ve got logos engraved on the lenses, gold-tone hardware, 100% UV protection, and their luxurious triangle box case.

Fendi Eyeshine Sunglasses, £370

Another one on my lust list of luxury must-haves are these unique cat eye frames that are so different from Gucci. If this is more your style, then dive into one of the best pieces from Fendi’s SS17 collection which was all things dreamy, thanks to Karl Lagerfeld. The pronounced sides, the shades of blue, the gradient lenses, the peekaboo cut-away on the top, oh Karl, this is why I love you.

Roberto Cavalli Menkalinan Sunglasses, £347

You’re probably thinking, these Cavalli sunglasses don’t really fit into the list. But, this one’s my pick for the luxury lover who understands that gold-tone shades with jewel-studded serpent stems can’t exactly be worn everywhere. It has a certain snob appeal—one I’m quite comfortable channeling even at a low-key affair. Would you pull these out if you weren’t at a high-brow event?

Linda Farrow x Matthew Williamson Sunglasses, £283

Bam! Butterfly sunnies, 2.0. A collaboration between Linda Farrow and Matthew Williamson gave us these beauties, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store. By the way, it just looks like a dull purple but these shades are a gradient of grey to clear. Which, honestly, works well given their dramatic shape and gold stems that pack in the right amount of punch for that pool party.

MARC by Marc Jacobs Sunglasses, £278.32

So pretty and edgy, the Marc Jacobs silver metal sunglasses are a pair I wouldn’t shy away from wearing indoors. Yes, indoors! More a fashion statement than shades for summer, the crystal details, the negative space cat eye frames set on round lenses, and the sheer weightlessness of the look has me thinking, I could wear these anywhere, anytime, no problem.

Miu Miu Sunglasses, £224

For the love of round sunglasses, take Miu Miu’s nod to the 1970s home with you. Have you seen anything like them? The double lens with a cut-out heart set in the frame, I mean. If you’re looking for a head turner, these sunglasses are a foolproof bet!

Jeremy Scott Smile Sunglasses From Linda Farrow, £218

Looks totally creepy, right? Well, who ever said this was going to be easy-breezy? After all, I did dare you, so here’s one that will have you pushing your boundaries. The Jeremy Scott smile sunglasses by Linda Farrow scream zombie apocalypse when shut, and Snapchat filter when open (yes, it’s a double lens that can be snapped open, much like the shutters of your garage door). So, do you dare?

TopShop Sunglasses, £22

Now, to be honest, high street brands have some pretty quirky sunglasses (go to H&M, there are a dozen), but they tend to appear cheap and low-quality (because they are!) If you want to keep things pocket-friendly yet look expensive, I’d put my money on these cut-away sunnies by TopShop. The oversized fit is diva-esque, the orange frame has gold undertones, and the unique double frame with unsealed edges shows there’s some thought been put into the design. On the quirky scale: 5/10; on the quirky on a budget scale: 7/10

TopShop Extreme Retro Sunglasses, £20

I love how these are cheaper but have far more va-va-voom. Another one by TopShop, the floral print makes me think of music festivals, Spring-Summer, retro shades—basically all feel good things canvassed on to an affordable pair of sunnies.

So, those are my top 10 picks. Which ones are you going to be wearing this season? Send me a picture?
