10000 Steps a Day

Walking is the most natural method for keeping fit. It is part of our daily activity. Intentionally increasing daily steps is one of the most doable means for losing weight. As you increase steps daily, you exert more physical activity, helping tone your body as a whole.

Why Should You Walk 10000 Steps a Day?

The 10,000 steps figure seems to have originated from Japan. Y Hatano released research on how taking daily steps of 10,000 helps people achieve balance and health. It grants the best calorie consumption to calorie burn ratio.

What Are Health Benefits of Walking 10000 Steps?

The Journal of the American Medical Association released a study on walking and pedometer use. The study showed that people who increased physical activity, especially walking, significantly lowered their blood pressure readings. Lower body mass index was also observed. This also benefits those who live with Diabetes; it helps normalize and regulate blood glucose levels. Those who have heart conditions will benefit much as walking helps strengthen the heart. As you increase walking steps, you’ll find that your overall mood and body condition is lifted. It is a natural energizer. It is also a great and effective means to strengthen the bones.

How Can You Lose Weight While Walking

In its July 2004 publication of Harvard Heart Letter, a listing of calories burned according to 30 minutes of particular activities was released. As for walking with below 10 minutes of jogging, 180 calories were burned by those who weighed 125 pounds, 223 calories were burned by those weighing 155 pounds, and 226 calories were burned by those weighing 185 pounds. Studies show that walking is very effective in achieving weight loss. On the same list, walking at a minimum of 3.5mph yielded a 120 calorie burn.

Use walking as your normal and daily form of exercise. Take out your pet for a quick walk around the barangay or subdivision you live in. Save pesos by visiting a friend nearby, instead of calling or texting. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Park your car farther from the mall entrance.

How Can You Measure Your Steps Each Day?

Since the invention of pedometers, counting steps has become simple. More than ever, you can now be intentional in walking for fitness. The study made by The Journal of American Medicine Association stated that just the awareness of wearing a pedometer and having a goal of 10,000 steps a day resulted in an increased daily step of over 2,000 by those who participated in the study.

Pedometers

Pedometers count steps taken by the wearer. They record and display the number of steps you’ve taken in real time. Basic pedometers just simply count steps; enhanced models display distance traveled and the amount of calories burned. Other high-end stocks have a GPS feature that provides accurate tracking and location; this provides more exact calculation of distance covered during a day’s walk. Normal pedometers are powered by batteries, compact in size, and worn around the belt. Today, a variety of mobile phone applications may be downloaded to add a pedometer feature to your smartphone.

Jori Kato is the one popularly accredited for producing accurate pedometers. The product was naturally named in Japanese as “manpo-kei”, which means “10,000 steps meter”. Y Hatano promoted man-pokei pedometers since he released his research which focused on proving how ten thousand steps a day help people achieve balance between calorie intake and calorie burn.

You can find options to choose from at a sports shop nearby, like Olympic Village, Sportshouse, or Toby’s. Include slimming wraps when you make a purchase. Green Tea also helps with weight loss and overall fitness.

Pedometer Steps in a Mile

Step to mile is generally estimated to fall within 2,000 to 2,500 depending on a person’s walking pattern. The measure of a stride is from the heel of your shoe as you touch the ground to the next step taken, measured at the heel once more. To specifically measure your own pedometer steps to a mile, walk ten normal steps and measure the total distance traveled (in feet). Divide the answer by 10 to get the average stride length. Divide the answer by 5,280 (5,280 is feet/mile). The answer is your number of steps in one mile.

Where Can You Walk in 10000 Steps in the Philippines?

Interestingly, there are places in the Philippines that grant hundreds of steps all at once. Why not plan your family vacation or barkada trips around these places:

Tinago Falls is located in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. It’s south of Mindanao. It is a main tourist spot. “Tinago” actually means hidden, and it’s kind of that way, really. You reach the falls after taking 500 steps down into a deep ravine. Get some steps off the list; do your walking in between swimming and personal meditation.

An Eco-tourist spot, Minalungao National Park is located at General Tino, Nueva Ecija. From Metro Manila, you can travel by car or public bus. Quite secluded, most of the park’s 2018 acres of land is in preserved natural state. The limestone walls on each side of the river are about 16 meters high. Take steps off your list by working your way 947 steps up to the highest point of the park where a large wooden cross stands. Catch a panoramic view of Sierra Madre as you peacefully meditate. Other activities the place offers are cliff diving and water rafting.

You’ll get 3,003 steps off the list when you take the challenge of checking out Linabo Peak in Dipolog City, Zamboanga. Developed in the 90’s, it has fast become a favorite mountaineering/hiking project for many Filipinos. Tourist visits, local and foreign, often peak during the Lenten Season. The devout participate in a Roman Catholic ritual of “14 Stations of the Cross”; they take this long walk up almost to the top of Mt. Linabo. The 3,003 steps won’t get you to the peak, but the view is definitely already breathtaking at that very point. Some recommend this fitness adventure only to the physically fit, as well as the option to climb further up to the very peak.
