Friday Five: Favorite Triathlon Gear

Happy Friday! It’s a busy week and I’m just about to leave town for Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City. As I pack up my race Gear, I wanted to share five favorite triathlon gear items for today’s Friday Five! Join me, Courtney, and Mar in the linkup below!

Triathlon is a sport that requires a lot of stuff. There’s three sports involved, so the amount of things to prepare can be overwhelming. And the sky’s the limit with how much more stuff you can decide that you “need” or want. I love gadgets, gear, and clothes, so it’s a slippery slope for me! So here are five favorites. I have a relationship with some of these companies so I’ll share some of my discount codes, but believe me – I don’t associate with companies if I don’t actually use the product and love it!

1. The Garmin watch. I live and breathe by my triathlon watch. It’s not just that I’m a lover of data – it does so many things and as I get more into the sport, I learn more of its capabilities and I can use it to improve. I’m into the run cadence tracking right now, trying to improve in that area.

I have the Garmin 920XT and I love it! The heart rate monitor has been an amazing addition to my training. Garmin customer service has been really helpful – recently the “keeper” broke and they sent me a new one, but the band itself wasn’t far behind (I guess it got brittle?) – and they sent me a new one.

2. The XTerra wetsuit. I’ve been happy with all three XTerra Wetsuits I’ve owned! I have a full sleeve and two sleeveless. I recently bought the second sleeveless and it fits amazing and is easy to pull on/off.

As a sponsored athlete, I have an XTerra wetsuits discount code you can use – enter SA-STEELE for a great discount if you’re in the market for a great wetsuit!

3. The Rudy Project Helmet. I fell in love with Rudy Project helmets at an expo once, and have been using them ever since. I have a few helmets, and also assorted Rudy Project sunglasses. My pink aero helmet is amazing – I know it’s bright but the bonus is that my dad can always see me coming!

If you are shopping for helmets or sunglasses, message me for a Rudy Project discount code! I can’t share it publicly but can shoot it to you in an email.

4. The SOAS Racing tri kit. I’m totally in love with SOAS Racing apparel, and have been a brand ambassador for a few years. It’s really comfortable – I can wear the tri shorts all day long and have no issues with long bike rides at all. Super comfy. And another discount for you – my SOAS Racing discount code is CYNTHIASTEELE for 10% off!

5. The cycling shoes. This is sort of a crazy favorite, but you can’t get anywhere in a tri without your shoes, right? So here’s what I use for cycling shoes – Pearl Izumi Tri Fly V. They’re hot pink but you can get them in men’s or women’s in other colors. I’ve been so happy with them that I bought a second pair in a slightly larger size. I read reviews that said the opening wasn’t very large, but I haven’t had issues getting in/out of them, and I haven’t ventured a flying mount on my bike so they work out perfectly for me.
