My first Pilates class & getting back in the gym.

I haven’t been to the gym in 2 weeks. My body needed to rest, sleep and get better so any form of exercise was put on the back burner.

I felt better yesterday but I didn’t want to do anything too strenuous so I decided to go to my first Pilates Class. I’ve done similar things in the past but they’ve always been at awkward times or they’ve been too advanced for me, so I end up going to one class and calling it a day. However this class is held straight after work and the gym is right next to my work so there were no excuses this time. Oh, and I went with two people from my work so there were doubly no excuses!

Although I was terrible at it, to the point where the instructor kept re-aligning me, I really enjoyed it! It was quite relaxing but I still came away with the feeling that I’d done something and today my muscles ached slightly which is always a bonus! I didn’t realise how weak my core was and this is something I really want to improve so I’m hoping to make these classes a regular thing, as well as adding in a small core session at the end of my gym workout!

Afterwards, I decided to treat myself to a hot chocolate. And yes I asked for added marshmallows. And yes, I may have asked for some extra marshmallows on the side. I’d earned it!

After having a 2 week break from the gym, I felt ready to go back this morning so I set my alarm for 6am, packed my gym bag and laid out gym clothes so I was ready! As sad as it sounds, I was actually quite excited to get back into it.

Although I haven’t lost too much strength, I know I’m still fighting an infection so I didn’t want to put my body through too much so I decided to take it easy. I did a weights session but used lighter weights that I usually would and I made sure I had a longer rest period in-between sets.

Although I was shattered afterwards, I feel incredible for it! There’s something about being sweaty and achy that is extremely satisfying! It also meant that I was actually hungry (I hadn’t had a massive appetite since being ill) so I refueled on a protein shake and my new favourite Danio protein yoghurt with added nuts.

Has anyone else struggled to back into their fitness after an injury?
