Altra Torin vs Escalante Altra Running Shoe Comparison

The Altra Torin vs Escalante is a great comparison to consider when shopping for running shoes. Both running shoes are from the same brand, Altra, and have similar features such as zero-drop platform, cushion, and lace closure system.

The Torin 7 is a great option for runners looking for long distances with its 24mm stack height and Ego Max midsole.

On the other hand, the Escalante has slightly more cushioning than the Torin 7 with a 26mm stack height and a firmer forefoot. A size 9.5 in both models will fit nearly identically, but the outsole of the Escalante is slightly more durable than that of the Torin 7.

If you're looking for a great option for long distances, either shoe would be a great choice. However, if you prefer more cushioning or better durability, then go with the Escalante over the Torin 7.

What are zero drop shoes?

Zero-drop running shoes feature a platform that is completely level, meaning the heel and forefoot are at the same height. This encourages runners to land more on their mid-foot or forefoot instead of their heel, which helps reduce impact and fatigue during longer runs.

Both Altra Torin and Escalante are zero-drop running shoes, making them very comfortable and supportive during runs.

Altra Escalante 3 Full Review

The Altra Escalante 3 is a great choice for runners of all levels. It is a daily trainer with an 8.7 oz size 9, and has plenty of cushioning material and support for your feet.

  • An Altra classic is here with an all-new modern look.
  • The new Escalante 3 is here to refresh your run with premium style updates like our sock-like upper material and added elastic for an improved fit to your foot.
  • This new road shoe also comes equipped with our Altra EGO™ midsole foam and our Standard FootShape™ Fit for a versatile yet comfortable ride.

The midsole is made of EVA foam and is designed to provide balanced cushioning in addition to the underfoot comfort provided by the Altra Torin 7.

The toe box gives you plenty of room for your toes, making it comfortable, balance cushioning, and a supportive feel for runs long or short.

The outsole is made from rubber, providing superior traction and durability compared to other brands such as Hoka or Torin 7.

All in all, the Altra Escalante 3 is a great option for anyone looking for a full-featured running shoe that provides both comfort and support in one package.

Responsiveness

The softness of the midsole on the Escalante 3, cushioned with Ego Foam, may make you feel as though you're running on squishy small pillows. I personally prefer a firmer midsole because if you want to run faster, in my opinion, a firmer foundation will help you reach your goal quicker.

Foot support

The changes in the new Escalante 3 regarding foot stability and sole responsiveness were marginal. To make the 3 more supportive, I saw some new stitching patterns in the upper, but it really requires more than that.

If you turn quickly or try to play basketball while wearing them, your foot will slide, and you could easily roll an ankle--just like with the 2.5 model.

Good running shoes need to immobilize your foot so that this doesn't happen.

Durability

The Altra Escalante 3 is made with a durable rubber outsole, making it a good choice for long-distance runs and regular daily use. The upper also features heavy-duty stitching to ensure that the material does not easily come apart during your run.

I've had no issues with the durability of this shoe after more than 30-40 miles of running and several months of regular use.

Overall, the Altra Escalante 3 is a great option for runners looking for an all-around daily trainer with sufficient foot support, balanced cushioning, and durability or a high-quality walking shoe for seniors.

The midsole may be too soft for some users, but overall this shoe offers a good blend of comfort and responsiveness.

The rubber outsole ensures that the shoe will last you through multiple running seasons, and its lightweight design makes it great for long-distance runs. With all these features packed into one shoe, the Escalante 3 is an excellent choice for runners of any level.
