UPPER - Materials and Lockdown

The React Miler is actually one of the beefiest shoes in the Nike lineup right now, but it feels like every once of the shoe is put to good use!

The upper is constructed with a Double Jacquard Mesh upper to provide lightweight breathability and a very secure lockdown.

This mesh is definitely tough, but it does have some solid ventilation throughout to make sure your foot does not sweat to excess.

This mesh upper is complemented with a Midfoot cage to increase lockdown across the midfoot for a more secure fit. They got it really right with this lockdown, as it holds your foot down so there is no slipping around on tight corners or slippery surfaces.

The tongue is semi-gusseted so it does not slip from side to side and it sits on top of your foot comfortably. The lacing system is smooth, ties up easy, and it stays tied!

You may experience some rubbing on the back of your foot or heel area, but if you sinch down the laces and protect it with a sock then you should be good to go.

Finally, Nike made the forefoot wider than some of its other models to create more toe splay for added stability and comfort. This is slightly in comparison to the Brooks and how they create their shoes. 

If you are a Nike fan but have a wider foot, then this would be a one to consider for some fore toe room. For added protection, there is also some extra toe protection in the front of the shoe.

MIDSOLE - Plush Foam, Propulsive Rocker

Because it is in the name, it comes as no surprise that this shoe’s midsole is made up of React Foam, which is a soft and springy cushioning compound built to deliver a high level of shock absorption without sacrificing energy return.

This shoe has the highest amount of React Foam of all the shoes in Nike’s lineup, and it is plush, durable, and will offer some solid energy return considering how soft it is.

To help with better forward motion, Nike has implemented a Rocker Geometry for a smooth transition throughout your stride from heel-to-toe.

To add a stability component, there is a Heel Clip that helps create a more inherently stable platform.

OUTSOLE - Comprehensive and Durable

The outsole is simple and will provide some solid traction and durability for the miles to come due to the Full Rubber covering.

A Ride rail that runs on the lateral side of the shoe helps create an efficient and smooth transition from heel to toe.

This outsole is pretty simple and effective, this outsole will last as long as the midsole, which should be a solid amount of time. Let’s get into that right now!

DURABILITY PREDICTION - 600 to 700 miles 

This is a super solid shoe, and it will get you a lot of miles in. My estimate is that you’ll get around 600-700 miles (965-1125km) no matter the frame that you are rocking.

Durability really is not an issue with this shoe, so you don’t have to take too much time considering it as a factor.

That being said, durability will depend on a variety of factors like biomechanics and running surface so you’ll need to take that into account for yourself when running in these shoes.

BEST USES - Easy Recovery Runs, Daily Miles, and Long Runs

The Nike React Miler is loaded with cushioning and comfort, so it will be best for getting you through daily training and long runs.

The React foam combined with the Rocker Geometry and the secure upper is ideal for logging the easy and daily miles.

It will also be ideal for those looking for a shoe that can take them through a long run without getting too beat up.

Should you get the React Miler?

If you are looking for something that is soft and offers just a hint of extra stability then this will be an awesome option for you.

Be mindful, however, that this is more than “inherent stability” because they do put a small rubber posting on the medial side of the shoe. Honestly though, you’ll probably still like this shoe even if you have a completely neutral gait-cycle.
