Are you facing difficulty in overcoming challenges?

What is a famous quote about overcoming challenges?

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” — Maya Angelou

If ever, I must encapsulate life in one line, it would be: “Life is like a roller-coaster ride, a giant wheel which gives you a chance to face ultra highs & ultra lows in circles.”

There is no single person on this planet who has not faced Obstacles in life. Life has never been a bed of roses; it is accompanied by thorns to protect the roses. You need to be courageous enough to face obstacles and happy enough to enjoy the smooth sailing. But it is human nature that we see only those people who have a simple and happy life. They enjoy life beyond measure! It is not that they do not have any obstacles in life, but they have mastered the art of Overcoming Challenges, smilingly. We need to learn from them. As good humans, we should never stop learning!

There is no such possibility that you will never face obstacles in life but obstacles do not have to stop you. You should not turn around and give up if you run into a wall. Gather courage and try to figure out how to climb, go through, or work around it. If you give up, you are defeated, if you strive harder, you shine and rise. The choice is with you.

Is there any formula for overcoming challenges in Life? Not really, but if you follow certain tips, it will surely help. The tips are:

  • While you do not know what is going to happen in the future, you can always plan.
  • Know you are not alone. Every person in this world has their low points.
  • Ask for help.
  • Feel your feelings.
  • Accept support.
  • Help others.
  • Think Big.
  • Positive Mindset.

 As I mentioned earlier, life is like a roller coaster ride hence it is full of ups and downs. One day, you may feel like you have it all figured out. Another day you notice, you have been thrown a curve ball. You are not alone in these feelings. Everyone must face their own set of challenges. Learning how to overcome challenges will help you stay centred and remain calm under pressure.

Past struggles can help you become more resilient in the following five ways:

  • They increase empathy.
  • They can trigger post-traumatic growth.
  • They build self-efficacy.
  • They help you find the good.
  • They help you reframe stress as a challenge.

While going through all this, you tend to face tremendous stress. The challenges in life are not easy to deal with. You must strategically tackle these by hammering every aspect of it. As a first measure, you need to figure out the feelings you are going through. Masking your feelings is not going to help. Rather, such suppressed feelings become trapped energy and can even have negative health consequences when they are ignored. Take some time to feel what you feel. This could come in the form of meditation. Or, if you would rather write down what you feel, writing can be a therapeutic and cathartic experience.

When you feel and share your feelings, you may also be able to see your situation in a new light. This exercise could lead you to come up with novel solutions and overcome any challenge at hand.

Overcoming challenges is not easy to achieve and you really need to work hard. Generally, there is more than one way to achieve desired results towards any hardship. However, there is always just one optimal way or best way of doing it. To work smarter rather than harder, start by working backwards. Outline and define your goal. Then, plan the process for how to get there.

It always helps to perform research to see how others who have come before you have done it. Take count of your skills and ideas for how you may be able to do it better. Then, stick to your path and get to work!

While facing and working towards your plan to overcome challenges, it always helps if you help others. It is very therapeutic if you help others who are facing such challenges.

While going through all this, it is very important to maintain a positive mindset and as goes the saying, “What you think becomes your reality.”  You need to train your mind to think positively. This will take both time and practice. It begins with mental awareness. You can practice awareness through mindfulness techniques and meditation. When you get good at acknowledging your thoughts and letting them pass, you can stop negative thoughts in their tracks.

Facing challenges and navigating one’s way through them builds resilience capacity. Knowing that one can overcome obstacles, learn from struggles, and benefit from mistakes lays a solid foundation for success in later life.
