The Life and Times of the Busy Mom Triathlete

Life. It’s been interesting and exciting. It’s never dull. And I’ve never been so quiet here but I just had to step back for a week or two to regroup and get caught up on things. After my business trip to Russia, I thought I’d get back on track with workouts and start rocking life again. And I did!

But it’s just been one thing after another, as just I tried to dig out from a crazy spring, my Ironman Training ramped up. And I went and did IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga. More on that later…

And now it’s back to work, life, kids, fitness again.

I suppose it really is the normal version of busy, but somehow it seems more exhausting. I think with all my exercise I’m just more fried in the evenings, so I go to sleep a little earlier to account for the earlier mornings. But then that throws off my “me” time.

The “me” time where I do my writing and other side projects. So for a few weeks more, things are going to be a little off and on with my ability to relax and have downtime, as I ramp up to peak training weeks.

But life is good. Busy and good!

At work we have tons of events and concerts happening, in my personal life I’m enjoying time with friends and family, and in my fitness time I’m just doing the best I can to fit it all in. As usual.

I have some race recaps to post, along with some great stuff I’ve been working on. But let me do a quick highlight of some recent things in my life:

I had an article go live on Women’s Running online!

I did Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga!

It went pretty well. A full race recap is coming, but in the meantime I’ll just say I finished in 5:50 and am happy with it! My coach Bob from South Shore Tri Coach didn’t want me to “race it”, since it was a training day for Ironman Lake Placid, so I feel happy with that result without killing myself. There’s a bit of an asterisk on the sub-6 since the swim was shortened, but I still feel pretty good!

I’m working with a nutritionist!

I’m working with a sports nutritionist on Metabolic Efficiency Training. It’s a bit of a departure from my self-sufficient weight loss management, but I wanted some guidance as I get into peak Ironman training. So much advice was coming at me from all directions, and I was starting to eat “whatever I wanted” as my training ramped up. I realized that’s not me, and I want to be in peak shape for the race and feel my best. So I went all-in with MET. More to come on that later!

I also did ZOOMA Annapolis half marathon last weekend!

I love this race and do it every year, and this year we were rewarded after years of hot and humid weather with the nicest day possible. I finished in 2:03, which was nowhere near a half marathon PR, but it was just a long run day for me. With great friends!

I lost my mojo the week after Chattanooga but it’s baaaaack!

Seriously, the week after the 70.3 I struggled. A lot. I gotta be real here, it was rough. But I’m getting my mojo back!

Track is back!

Our former LUNA Chix workouts are now transformed into a women’s group subset of the DC Tri Club. We meet Thursday mornings for track but all are welcome – let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you the details!

So now let’s highlight some things coming up —

My youngest has a Pre-K “promotion” ceremony and my oldest has a 5th grade “promotion” ceremony. It’s not called “graduation”, but really that’s what it is, isn’t it?

I’ll be attending a training camp in Lake Placid in a couple of weeks! We’ll get to swim, bike, and run the course along with great informational sessions.

That’s it!

So there you have it – caught up on life and training over the past couple of weeks.

Life is full. Life is good. Life is happy.

What are looking forward to this summer?
