What sparked your weight-loss transformation journey?

I had no health issues, but I wanted to feel confident again, hence my journey began.

In February 2018 I had visited a friend and got on a scale which I hadn’t been on in months and the number it showed me (202.8 lbs) made me so sad/depressed & angry for letting myself go.

I knew immediately I had to make my health a priority in order to feel/look great.

I was so ignorant when I started. I started the same day I got on the scale. I went home in a rage, threw out every junk food. Went to the store and bought every veggie on the aisle.

How did your eating habits change?

I can say I was pretty much low carb. I ate mostly veggies and a protein. It has worked for me long term cause it’s not restrictive and I don’t go crazy with binging cause I’m not depriving myself.

I also learned to meal prep which I give 70% gratitude of my success to.

It helped me greatly to stay on track and not fall off the wagon yet again. Having a meal ready and on the go cancels out even the thought of wanting to cheat or steer off your diet.

When did you start exercising?

I started working out the same day I got on a scale. Haha I was very pumped. I made a goal to walk at least 10k steps a day.

I also started working out at my apartments gym and did only the elliptical & treadmill M- F for 1 hr for about 6 months.

I never missed a day lol. I’m currently more into strength training, core training and flexibility training.

As I also have found yoga and I love love finding my new strengths in nailing those poses.

What’s your current workout routine?

I still workout 5x a week.

What do you typically eat for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner?

A typical day of eating looks like:

Breakfast: (I usually enjoy fruits to kick start my day) I typically have a bowl of sliced fruits.

Lunch: A quarter cup of rice, a protein & a steamed vegetable. (1/4 cup rice, 1grilled salmon, 1cup steamed broccoli)

Snack: I barely snack, but when I do my go to is “ a Greek yoghurt & a handful of almonds or baby carrots & Ranch.

Dinner: For dinner I typically have a chicken/tuna salad or chicken soup. (I don’t like to eat heavy before bed)

Dessert:

Please share your weight loss tips.

My 3 weight loss tips are

  • Determination
  • Discipline
  • Consistency

These were my top habit changes and tips to my success.

Determination – A failed mindset is often a failed plan. You have to tell yourself you can do this and hold yourself accountable.

Discipline – This is my biggest struggle as I am still working on it daily. It’s different when you’re obeying your own rules than a rule set by someone of power. You have to make those constant decisions to choose better daily.

Consistency – Oh this is one of the biggest reasons I struggled. Just keep going. As cliche as it sounds, that’s all it takes. Those little changes daily make the big transformation in the long run.

What were your weight loss goals when you started?

I have lost a total of 66 lbs and I had lost 50 lbs in about 7months after I started.  My initial goal was to only lose 20 lbs which seemed like a dream cause I doubted I’ll ever be successful with my weight loss after trying for years and failing.

Losing weight for me wasn’t just about physical, it changed my mindset to food drastically. It made me realize I should eat to fuel my body and to live and not eat out of boredom or just cause I feel I should be munching on something. I regained my confidence as well.

My skin is also the best it’s ever been. All of the hyperpigmentation from being overweight literally disappeared. I feel so energized. I am so happy I started and stuck to it.

Never looking back, I want to inspire someone who feels utterly confused on how to start, just start with whatever resources you have.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start their own weight loss journey?

You do not need motivation but the willingness to see it through that which you have said you are going to do and stay consistent regardless of the bad days.

It doesn’t have to be the perfect meal plan or workout regimen. The decision to get started and see it through is all it takes.

My motto is : Consistency over Restrictions.

I was of the mindset to lose weight I should only chew a carrot or raw spinach but that isn’t sustainable and only leads to a spiral of binge eating and continuous frustrations with the process of weight loss.

Thank you.
