5 Things I'm Leaving Behind in 2020

The biggest thing I'm Leaving behind in 2020 is 2020 itself. See ya never, sucka! This year hasn't been all bad for me, fortunately, but it definitely was not my favorite year ever!

As is the tradition here on Flecks of Lex, I'm sharing the things I'm leaving behind in 2020, and have some inspirational friends who would like to share what they're leaving behind. Last year, I said I was leaving behind two things: Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda and Dark Undereye Circles. Those undereye circles have made a triumphant return (still working on it!), but I did so much better with Coulda, Woulda, and Shoulda!

Here are the 5 things I'm leaving behind in 2020:

Double-Booking and Overscheduling

This year started out the way most of my adult years have started: with me doing way too much. By mid-March of 2020, that was just not possible, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed! Not being able to do all of the things I normally would do made it so that I could really focus on the sorts of things that are most important to me. I got to spend more time with #InfluencerJohn, fell back in love with running (again), began to enjoy workouts at home, and was actually able to make some new friends in unusual ways! It's not going to be easy to keep this up, but I'm hopeful that I have a stronger grasp on what "sparks joy" in my life.

Clutter

Speaking of sparking joy, I donated, recycled, and composted a lot of items this year, and it really helped me breathe more easily! I'm leaving all of that stuff and the clutter it created in 2020!

Dirty Laundry

Say what now? I started a new tradition today, which was cleaning all of my dirty clothes before midnight. There's something so great about starting the new year out with no dirty clothes... I hope? I think? I'm pretty sure...

Excuses to Not Exercise

Now that I have done most of my workouts at home or outdoors, I can't use the excuse of "I hate working out at home" or "I don't have the right equipment at home." #NoExcuses In order to hit my goals, I have to challenge myself to dig a little deeper on days when I know I have the energy and deep down have the motivation.

Weak Glutes and Bad Posture

This is something that I've really just started to pay attention to, but the result of all of these hours, days, weeks, and months (really, it feels like years!) of sitting at my home desk has caused my glutes to weaken and my posture to become pretty bad. Now that I know this, I can focus on sitting and standing tall and isolating my glutes in order to build more strength. My trainer is helping me get stronger, but there's some homework and extra time I have to put in on my own.

What My Fitness/Wellness Friends Are Leaving Behind

De Bolton (FaithFueled Mom)

"This year has been very revealing. I have learned so much about myself and others, and I have quite a few things I'm leaving behind, and a few I've already left behind.

The first major one is playing small. I realized this year that the only person holding me back is me. For many years, I thought I needed the approval of others to live my life. But on the contrary, if I disapprove, it doesn't bring me joy. It’s keeping me in a small place of self-doubt.

After taking significant strides professionally, I can no longer keep myself in small places to be accepted or approved. I stopped playing small, and it led to some major breakthroughs.

That was is a significant thing I'm leaving behind that led to other things:
  • Like second-guessing myself; Being perfect.
  • I was hiding my strengths so others can feel comfortable.
  • Overextending myself to feel essential and busy no longer serves me.
  • I was questioning my value and my voice.
  • Letting go of so many limits leaves you in a place of being limitless.
I have some big goals this year, and I am grateful for all that 2020 has taught me. I am thankful for the lessons of 2020 because it was a catalyst for a more authentic version of myself that I will carry on into the New Year."

Tiffany Gustafson (Healthier Ever After)

"This year, I am leaving behind other people’s agendas for me. As the year went on, I learned that I was doing things (too many things) because other people told me that 'this would be good for you!' or 'This is what you should be doing.' I listened because I thought they had my best interest in mind. And I am sure they did, but at the end of the day, this is my life, and I will move forward with things aligned with my vision."

Stephanie Felder (FitFaith Life)

"I am leaving self-doubt in 2020. I let my own 'buts' get in the way of my own success. While on the outside it looked like I accomplished a lot, there was so much more that was on my heart to do to impact others.

I’m taking confidence in God’s plan for my life into 2021! In the new year, I will be coaching people to be inspired, be resolved, and be transformed. Renew your mind so that you can fully embrace your true self in mind, body, and spirit!"

Esther McNary (Joyful Wellness Girl)

"Things I’m leaving behind in 2020: Negativity
  • Negative people (toxic relationships)
  • Negative mindset (self-doubt)
  • Negative reactions (isolating myself)"
