BATHROOMS

  • Use night lights
  • Mount grab bars to both the inside and outside of your tub and/or shower.
  • Immediately dry floors after bathing.
  • Use bathroom rugs with nonslip backing.
  • Keep floors clean.
  • Keep shower and bathtub walls clean.

Keep wet areas safe by using non-skid mats, strips, or carpet.

BEDROOM

Keep telephone near bed.

Put night lights and light switches near bed.

LIVING AREAS

Keep items used often within easy Reach.

Keep walking paths clear of cords and wires.

Tape cords and wires to floor boards.

Avoid walking on slippery surfaces.

Use grab sticks to reach items that are too high to reach safely.

Do not stand on tables or chairs to reach items.

Do not reach out of your body’s central core area. (Do not lead sideways and have your body weight focused on one side.)

STAIRWAYS, HALLWAYS, PATHWAYS

Use handrails when walking up and/or down stairs. Make sure they are securely fastened.

Do not use small area or throw rugs. If have to use them, be sure to securely tape corners and edges.

Keep walking areas clean and clear of papers, clothes, books, etc.

Use adequate lighting.

Make certain all carpets are firmly affixed to floor.

Do not use slip strips on wooden floors or tile.
