Dangers of Loose Rugs

Hello everyone. Something recently happened that highlighted the importance of following medical/healthy living advice that I thought is worthy of sharing. It involves the dangers of loose Rugs. This is especially true during our COVID19 lockdowns when we are spending more time at home.

How many times have you heard about not having loose rugs or floor coverings around your living area? Advice claims that these items make it too easy to fall, trip and/or play havoc on walking. Here’s a real-life story that brings this fact home…

My friend has a loose rug in her bathroom. She is mobility impaired to begin with, so walking is a difficult task. Her obesity makes it even more trying to maneuver confidently. No matter what the warning messages are, she did not see the rhyme or reason for taping down her rugs.

Hence..her foot and toe area went underneath the rug edge. She tripped, slid on the rug and landed on the floor. On the way down, she bashed her head into the side of her shower door. The door is glass.

She now has 12 stitches and staples in her head. She is currently in the hospital, lucky to get a hospital bed during our COVID pandemic.

When preparing for our total Knee Replacement, literature and advice states to either remove the loose rugs or tack them down. After reading this real-life story, do you see the importance of that? I certainly hope so.

Personally, and probably like many of you, I knew about the potential danger of having loose rugs around, but have never had contact with any real-life situations. That is, until now.
