What is the average salary of a Personal Trainer?

According to Payscale, the average starting salary for a personal trainer is £19,601 in the UK. However, this is far from a conclusive figure.

Really, your income comes down to you.  Several factors can affect your income though, such as:

  1. Experience and Qualifications

As an entry-level Personal Trainer, you can expect to earn an average salary. This will, however, increase rapidly as you gain industry experience.

More qualifications = more money. If you have a speciality (Padwork for example), you can charge more. The more qualifications you have indicates to clients that you have the knowledge and expertise they require.

  1. Location

Location plays a big part in the salary based on the relative wealth of the area.

For example, Cumberland and Oxford are above £35K on average, while Staffordshire and Sussex are close to £20K per year.

  1. Marketing / Social Media Presence

Social media is booming with personal trainers showing their recent ‘transformations’ for clients. It is an easy and free way to market yourself as a Personal Trainer and bring in clients.

How much does it cost to become a Personal Trainer?

Buy on price alone and you will get what you pay for. If you take your chances, then prepare to be disappointed! Do your research and you will find a quality training provider that charges the right amount. Here at Focus, we offer learner loans to help fund a course.

If you are being charged £300 to become a fully qualified Personal Trainer – think before you buy. Recently 2 of these type of providers have ceased to trade, and 1 other has lost the ability to continue to offer Learner Loans.  If you are aware of this or have been affected by such a change get in touch. We want to do our best to see if we can help.

Can you be a Personal Trainer without a certificate?

Simply, no. Without a certificate, you will not only struggle to secure clients, but you can be liable for any injuries happening in your care.
