5 Tips for Getting Fit on a Budget

Getting fit can be fun and shouldn’t be a financial burden. Maybe you’ll even find your goals easier to reach if isn’t costing you a fortune. Read on to discover my top tips for getting fit on a budget…

As we get closer to summer, I know more and more of you are thinking about fitting back into your summer clothes (trust me, I am too).  It’s often thought that getting fit is expensive, but I don’t want you substituting one bad habit for another (over-spending) so I have laid out 5 effortless ways to reach your health and fitness goals without breaking the bank.

Here are my 5 Tips for Getting Fit on a Budget:

Getting Fit on a Budget Tip #1: Workout with a friend

It’s one thing to cancel plans with yourself—it’s another to cancel on a friend who’s counting on you. Scientific studies have demonstrated that going to a gym with a friend is motivating. Having a partner depending on you to make it onto the gym floor can mean  the difference between failure and success. A University of Aberdeen study found those who worked out with a partner exercised more than those without. Exercise effort increases for both cardiovascular and resistance training when working out with a friend, particularly if your friend has the edge on you. Kansas State University researchers found training with a friend that you perceive to be better than you can increase both exercise intensity and duration. My running buddies motivate me to run further and longer than I would on my own. A friend to workout with is like having your own personal trainer!

Getting Fit on a Budget Tip #2: Join a low-cost gym with high quality facilities

When it comes to joining a gym, Fit4Less is an excellent choice for anyone looking to start and stick to making healthy changes on a Budget. If you are looking for an inclusive, down to earth experience in a top notch facility, you should consider the super affordable options at Fit4Less locations.

For individuals looking to join a gym, for just $4.99 every two weeks (plus a joining fee) you will get access to a 4Less Membership giving you a high-quality gym at an amazingly low price. Yes, you read that right! You can join a gym for two weeks, for approximately the price of your coffee order.

For couples or families, a Black Card membership may be a better option. With a Black Card membership, you can get access for just $10.99 every two weeks and with this you will get access to ANY location, free tanning, unlimited hydro message bed and chair use, a free t-shirt and bag plus more!

Getting Fit on a Budget Tip #3: Save money on gym clothes and accessories

Gym clothes and accessories can be expensive. Here are a few tips to help you save:

  • Look for generic clothes and accessories rather than brand names
  • If you are after a brand name, wait until the end of each season as prices usually drop
  • Search for deals online or in-store sales

Getting Fit on a Budget Tip #4: Leave the car at home

Walk, bike, or better yet, run to the gym. Save time by doing your cardio on the way to the gym, do a strength circuit, then run home. An added bonus is that you can shower in the comfort of your own home after your workout.

Getting Fit on a Budget Tip #5: Use fitness apps instead of a personal trainer

There are quite a few apps available you can use at the gym that will lead you through everything from a tough, grueling workout, to a simple yoga routine. You can pick up some free Apps such as 7 Minute Workout and Couch to 5k Runner in the App store, so have a peruse of the ones available and pick one that suits you. My personal favourite is the Nike Training Club app.
