With the explosion of races like Spartan Race and Tough Mudder, people are getting off the treadmill and finding new ways to combine cardio and strength training into their at home workouts. Even if you’re not training for a race, and just want to add a great full body burn to any of your other at home workouts, finding the best Vertical Climber Machine could be just want you need to elevate your routine!

What Is The Best Vertical Climbing Machine?

Currently, the best vertical Climber machine makers are VersaClimber, Maxi Climber, Weslo Climber, and Conquer Vertical Climber. These machines have come a long way since the early days of vertical climbers, and now provide great stability, portability, and can be stored in smaller and smaller spaces. We’ve compared these four climbers in these categories: Workout Variety, Value, Durability and Storage.

Workout Variety

While you might look at the best vertical climber machine products and think that there wouldn’t be much variety when the movements you are making are all basically the same, you’d be surprised to learn there are a lot more to these machines than originally meets the eye.

VersaClimber

The VersaClimber is far and away the most expensive product we tested, and anyone trying to decide “which vertical climber machine should I buy” should first consider if they’re willing to spend $2,000+ on a single product. In terms of variety, this doesn’t do a whole lot more than other climbers, aside from allow the user to grab on to hand rails and use the step-only function as opposed to the true, climber technique.

MaxiClimber

There is no way to adjust resistance on the Maxi Climber, which makes all the workouts feel the same. While you can vary your intensity, there is no way to challenge yourself when you become comfortable on this machine.

Weslo Climber

When comparing the Maxi Climber vs Weslo Climber, the Weslo adds resistance, which makes it one of the most versatile vertical climber machines we tested. You won’t gain anything in terms of variety of your workout, but the added resistance is a nice upgrade for anyone looking for something a little more advanced in their workout.

Conquer Vertical Climber

There isn’t much difference between the Maxi Climber vs Conquer Vertical Climber aside from the digital timer on the Maxi Climber. You are only using your body weight as resistance, but that doesn’t mean you don’t get a killer workout.

Value

Ultimately, choosing the best vertical  climber machine that fits your needs and your budget all depends on the individual and how often you’d use the machine. In terms of value, it all comes down to cost vs. quality of the product.

VersaClimber

Price: $2,000-$5,300

From the airplane grade aluminum to the quality tech that is all wrapped into this very expensive package, the quality is unmatched in this space. Few people have the kind of coin it takes to put one of these in their home, however. If you want the best of the best, then this is the best vertical climber machine for you.

MaxiClimber

Price: $159.99

The solid construction makes this reasonably priced product a good fit for most home gyms and our choice for best value. Easy to set up, simple timer, and comfortable grips and foot holds make this product worth the investment.

Weslo Climber

Price: $205.84

The large LCD screen is a nice touch, and makes the slightly above-average price tag tolerable if you are the kind of person that is motivated by reaching metric goals.

Conquer Vertical Climber

Price: Check on Amazon

There is no LCD screen to tell you how long you’ve been working out or how many reps you did. This machine is made of solid construction, and if you are OK just getting the burn and not seeing any digital readouts, then this is a good product to invest in.

Best Value: MaxiClimber

Durability and Storage

The last thing you want in your home gym is a big clunky climber that you can’t fold up or store easily. Part of what makes the best vertical climber machine is how easy it is to hide. Another aspect would be how durable the machine is, because the more you use it, the more chance it stands to get banged up.

VersaClimber

This product is the most durable thanks to it’s high grade materials. It only requires 36″ x 44″ of floor space, and can be stored under an 8′ ceiling.

MaxiClimber

Solid construction and minimal floor space needed, but like most other vertical climbers we tested, it doesn’t fold up. Still, this product will last a long time.

Weslo Climber

While it takes a while to set up, this product feels very sturdy for me. There is a 250 pound weight limit, which might affect some, but the look and feel of this product is great for me. Can be stored under 7.5′ ceilings.

Conquer Vertical Climber

This is the best vertical climber machine in terms of storage, as it is the only one that folds up in between uses. The material is on par with the other models we tested, but for anyone with a small space or who would want to move it from one room to the next for whatever reason, this is the product for you.

Best Durability: VersaClimber

Overall Best Vertical Climber Machine

Our top overall winner isn’t the most expensive, but it does offer the best combination of variety in modes, value, and is a well-built machine. The Weslo Step Climber takes our top spot thanks to it’s ability to add resistance and accommodate anyone from beginner to expert. You don’t have to pay much more than other products in it’s category, but the extra few bucks is worth it for a well-built vertical climber.
