How to Stay Fit When You Work a Busy Schedule

We all understand the importance of being active and how it can improve our health.

We know that to live a healthy lifestyle we need to incorporate regular Exercise.

But, how can you stay fit when you are so busy?

Some people that work crazy schedules seem to stay fit and active, regardless of working hours and busy lives.

Is it possible to balance work life and home life with exercising?

The real question is how much do you want to get fit and stay active?

If you really want it, then you can do it.

You’ve just got to prioritise, spare an hour a day or whatever you can.

Be determined to reach your goals, even if it is going to be a long process.

We’ve listed all the ways to help you stay fit when working long hours, there are no excuses now.

Leaving the house in the morning and returning late in the evening can be depressing, but if you can get half an hour of exercise in there it will easily lighten your mood, making you feel happier and healthier.

It may help with sleep and clear your head of the long day you’ve had at work.

Prioritising exercise is essential, it needs to be at the top of your list.

Find a Gym

Firstly, if you have a gym that is close to your house than join it, you want to look for a gym that has early opening hours and late closing hours, or even better, is a 24hour gym.

You can commit time to the gym by going before work or after, whichever works for you. Even if it is for 30 minutes, you can still get a decent session at the gym.

Or, find a gym close to your workplace so you can go straight after or before work and resist the temptation of lying on the couch all night.

If you travel a lot for work, then a good option is to join a gym that is a big chain, ensure that you will be able to access other gyms before you take out a membership.

If joining a gym is an absolute no due to the costs or if you are unsure that you can commit than the next best thing is to buy a decent pair of running shoes and go out for a jog.

You can do bodyweight exercises at home without having to splash out on a gym membership.

There’s always a way to get in a good Workout.

Next, you need to consider how to maximise your workouts. Get the most out of each session.

Decide on what your goal actually is, do you want to lose weight? Gain muscle? Or just become healthier?

Whatever your goal is will help you to establish the best workout routine.

If you’re looking to lose weight, then you should focus on high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

You do not need much time for a HIIT session, they typically last between 10-30 minutes.

And, you do not need a gym or any equipment.

You could even do a HIIT session on the staircase at work on your lunch break.

If you’re looking to build muscle, you should focus on compound exercises like squats, deadlifts and lunges.

All can be done with your own bodyweight, or if you can add dumbbells or kettlebells.

If you’re working out at home, a good investment would be to purchase a resistance band.

Maximise Your Free Time

Plan what you are going to do when you are not at work, make sure you get a decent workout in.

Use your time wisely.

Planning and preparing meal ideas will save you a bunch of time in the week, meaning you have more time to exercise and don’t have to worry about getting home and cooking.

Meal prep will help you reach your goal and reduce the temptation of ordering a takeaway.

If you get 2 days off a week than you can fit a workout in on both of these days and only have to be sure to get in one more session whilst you are working.

If you struggle for free time, there’s still a way to get some exercise. If you work at a desk, you could do some office exercises.

Take the stairs instead of the lift, walk around on your breaks.

Anything is better than nothing and it will bring you closer to reaching your goals.

The Right Balance

Balancing your work life with exercise can be difficult.

The main focus is on setting priorities and time management, you have to decide what is more important for you and if you really don’t have time to exercise or if you just don’t want to.

There are always ways to squeeze in a little workout, even if it is something just to get your heart rate up.

Staying fit will help with your hectic work life. It might be difficult at first but once you are in a routine you won’t regret it.

We suggest starting off with smaller workouts to get your body used to it, then eventually you’ll be able to have longer workouts.

Remember, a good nights sleep is essential for the body to recover. If you are working long hours you don’t want to be missing out on sleep.
