Deadpool hits the big screen on the 10th of February and one of the reasons we can’t wait is that the comics are so incredibly funny! Known for breaking the fourth wall, Deadpool, the disfigured superhuman with accelerated healing powers, is different from other Marvel characters in that he’s constantly making fun of other heroes and asks himself the same sort of questions the readers would. Although Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza initially created Deadpool as a combination between DC‘s Deathstroke and Marvel’s own Spider-Man (Deadpool’s real name is Wade Wilson, and, what a coincidence, Deathstroke is called Slade Wilson), Deadpool gained immense popularity as, say, a parody on the typical superhero. With his slapstick humor, weird, psychotic internal monologues and his ever-so-talkative nature, Deadpool became the ultimate antihero – beloved by the modern internet generation that doesn’t shy away from sharp, smart-ass banter and sarcasm. If you look at the trailer and promotional material for the Deadpool film, it doesn’t seem like Tim Miller and co have forgotten about what makes Deadpool great. The MPAA has officially given the film an R-rating in the US, which has resulted in the appearance of a strange billboard advertisement that is totally in line with the character’s self-mocking sense of humour.
