4 Home Organizing Mistakes & How to Fix Them

If you have run into trouble organizing your home, you are not alone. There are many people who look around and simply have too much to store and not enough room. However, you may not have known that there are some mistakes that you can make when it comes to home Organization and these mistakes can cost you storage space. Let’s take a look.

Mistake #1: Setting your expectations too high.

We get it – we all want that perfect home where everything is tucked away and neat. However, that is not a realistic expectation, especially if you have kids, you like to decorate, or have pets in your home.

The reality is, you need your expectations to be realistic. It is okay to have some items on the walls and tables – think about it for a minute – those homes only look perfect because no one lives there.

Mistake #2: Storing EVERYTHING out of sight.

You may want to hide some of the items you have, but you do not have to hide them all. In fact, hiding them all only causes confusion and a headache. It is fine to have your most used appliance on your kitchen counter.

Organization only becomes an issue when items are not put where they need to go, and this leads to clutter. So, in the end, you can have those items on your counter, but do put the other items away.

Mistake #3: Keeping unused items.

It can be extremely hard to throw away that $40 pot that you planned to use but never did. Holding onto Unused Items happens to all of us, especially when we have spent our hard-earned money on the items.

While you may want to keep those items, even though they collect dust, you shouldn’t. Organization cannot happen if you are hoarding all of those items. If you want to try to recoup some of the money you spent, simply have a garage sale, but for the sake of organizing, you can easily donate these items. Mistake #4: Piling up papers and mail.

Ah – here we go. One of the easiest things to do and something that we ALL do. You have likely walked into your home after a long, hard day at work and thrown the mail onto the table. A few days a week and you have a nice pile there.

It is imperative that you do not keep a pile of papers in your home as it leads to a mess and can destroy your plans to organize your home. One way to combat this problem is to scan and keep your receipts in a cloud folder or simply go through the papers daily and throw out what you do not need.

Remember, Organization Starts with You.

If you have made any of these four organization mistakes, you are not alone. Simply learn how to handle them, avoid them, and you will be on your way to a home that is neat and organized.
