BREAKING: Pistons acquire veteran point guard in trade

Stan Van Gundy and the Pistons have made another trade. This time picking up a veteran point guard to help fill the absence of Reggie Jackson.

Stan Van Gundy and Jameer Nelson are well acquainted. Nelson played with Van Gundy in Orlando during the successful Dwight Howard era that saw them advance to the 2009 NBA finals. Nelson was just acquired by the Bulls this past week in a trade that sent their star forward Nikola Mirotic to the Pelicans.

Nelson provides some much-needed depth and leadership at the Point guard position. The Pistons have been rotating a group of young and experienced point guards at the backup point guard position since Reggie Jackson’s injury. The group of Dwight Buycks, Kay Felder, and Langston Galloway have all shared time running the point. Now Jameer Nelson will help fill some minutes while giving much needed veteran leadership. Nelson is averaging five points and three assists while shooting 36% from three this season.

On the other side of the trade, the Pistons are sending away newly acquired center Willie Reed, who came over in the Blake Griffin trade. The Pistons frontcourt situation would not have allowed Reed to see the floor much. Reed is also in the process of serving a six-game suspension due to a domestic violence case stemming from this past summer.

The Pistons have yet to lose a game since the Blake Griffin trade. Hopefully, they can continue that trend tomorrow when they meet up with some old friends in new jerseys against the Los Angeles Clippers.
