This would be great news.

The Philadelphia Eagles are dealing with a number of injuries as the regular season draws near. It appears there is some positive news on that front, however, as Howard Eskin is reporting there’s a “good chance” Brandon Graham will come off the Physically Unable to Perform list and return to practice tomorrow.

This report seems reasonable since I’ve noticed Graham a little more active in his rehab during practice lately. Graham has also maintained that he’s been “ahead of schedule” in his recovery.

Graham had surgery on his right ankle back in May. He originally suffered the high ankle sprain in Week 16 of the 2017 regular season and played through it en route to the Eagles’ Super Bowl win. That was the game where Graham strip-sacked Tom Brady.

Graham wasn’t healthy enough to participate in the Eagles’ spring workouts and he began training camp on the PUP list. By taking him off that list, Graham will be able to start practicing once again.

Getting Graham back healthy is a big deal. The veteran defensive end led the team in sacks last year with 9.5. Graham played the most snaps of any defensive lineman on the team. He’s a key part of a Philadelphia pass rush that led the NFL in pressures generated last season.

With Graham potentially back in the fold, the Eagles’ defensive end rotation is pretty fearsome. Between Graham, Michael Bennett, Chris Long, Derek Barnett, Steven Means, and Josh Sweat, the Eagles should not struggle to generate a lot of pressure once again.

2018 is an important year for Graham. The 30-year-old is currently scheduled to be a free agent after this season. It’s not impossible that Graham and the Eagles could reach a deal before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. We’ll see.

For now, it’s just good to know Graham will be back on the field soon.
