A LIFE WORTH WRITING ABOUT: Treating challenges as adventures

We’re all just doing our best to get through the day. However, it’s important to slow down once in a while and ask ourselves: Am I just surviving, or am I really living my life? When’s the last time I had an adventure?

Think of your life as a book. While there’s so much about our lives that we can’t control, to some extent we are the authors of our own experiences. We can’t always control what happens to us, but we do have control over the experiences we choose to pursue. What are the Adventures you want to write into the next chapter of your story?

Reflecting on past challenges

Sometimes, the most challenging times of our lives make for the best stories.

Of all of the chapters of your life, which was the hardest to get through? How has living through it contributed to the plot of your life? Would you be where you are now if that chapter had been “written” differently?

Maybe you would have chosen not to go through the hardships you’ve had to endure, but maybe those times can be reframed as experiences that became proof of your resilience. Every experience has shaped the person you are today. Everything you’ve been through has contributed to your character development.

Whatever has happened up until now, the fact is that you’ve been strong enough to survive. This should give you the confidence to know that you can handle any challenges to come. You’re still alive. You are the hero of your own story.

You have the strength and resilience to chase any adventure you desire. An adventure is just a challenge you choose.

Live a life of adventure

We can’t rewrite past chapters, but we can help shape what’s yet to be written. Where do you want to go from here?

What if you embraced the role of being the hero of your own story and actually pursued things that were challenging? Maybe there’s something that’s been missing in your life story, or something that only makes a rare appearance. What do you want to see more of in the pages of your future?

What adventures might await you if you had the courage to pursue them?

Perhaps the adventures you long for seem too big or daunting, but it’s important to remember that the person you are today is stronger than the person you were a few chapters ago. Just because you couldn’t do it then doesn’t mean you can’t do it now.

Dare to believe that the rest of your story can be different than the way it began. Live a life worth writing about and inspire others to realize that they are the heroes of their own stories, too.
