TWU Sets Ski Jumping Season Record in Southeastern Missouri

CAPE GIRARDO, Missouri. The Texas women’s gymnastics team set a season-high vault as well as multiple records in every rotation tonight against Southeast Missouri State.

The Pioneers traveled to Missouri to take on the Redhawks in a double event. At the Midwest Independent Conference caucus, TWU lost to SEMO with 193,325. In their second home meeting, the Redhawks scored a program-record 196,175.

TWU kicked off the night on the Uneven Bars, starting at 47.8500. Maddie Griffith led the Pioneers in the first round with a score of 9.8000. In her debut season on uneven bars, Alix Pierce hit 9.7500. Brook Ferrari scored 9.7000, which is the top three of the pioneers on the starting apparatus.

After the uneven bars, the pioneers moved on to the vault, where they improved their start. In storage, the Pioneers hit a season-high 48.7750. Griffith continued her impressive performance, hitting a career-high 9.8500 to lead the Pioneers. She was followed by Madeleine Gouse with a season-high 9.775. Beth Lazarus, who was the first vault pioneer, hit a season-high 9.7500. Matching Gose’s result, Daisy Woodring also hit 9.7500. To complete TWU’s top five results, Emily Six scored 9.6500. Finally, in her vault debut, Kami Zarlengo scored 9.6000.

In the third rotation, the Pioneers continued their strong seasonal performance on the Floor, narrowly missing their season-high 48.9000 from 48.8750. After hitting a record 9.9000 on the floor last week, Alix Pierce nearly matched her career mark with 9.8500. Pierce’s performance came after Daisy Woodring set the tone with a career-high 9.8500, beating her previous career high of 9.8250, which she hit three times.

Ruby Goad, who finished second in TWU on the floor, remained consistently great, pushing her career high to 9.7500. As an MC for TWU, Zarlengo made his debut on the floor with an upbeat number. To the applause of the pioneers, Zarlengo set her record high of 9.7500 on the floor. Continuing the trend of career highs, Kayla Podges contributed to TWU’s top 5 with a career-high score of 9.6750.

After a high score on the floor, the Pioneers finished the beam meeting with a score of 47.8250. Three pioneers hit 9.7000 or higher in the final spin. Pierce led TWU with a seasonal high of 9.8250. Also topping the TWU leaderboard, Emily Six scored a record 9.8250 while sticking to her stellar program. Finally, Woodring finished in the top three of the Pioneers with a score of 9.7000.

After the results were tallied up, the Pioneers had the top three players finishing first in the competition. Griffith placed first on vault, while Pierce and Sixx tied for third on balance beam.

TWU compete again on Sunday in a triple in Lindenwood against Missouri and Lindenwood.
