Why You Should Become a Medical Assistant

If you’re interested in a career in the Medical field but you’re not ready to commit to becoming a nurse or doctor, the job of a medical assistant may be perfect for you. Medical assistants can get their feet wet in the medical industry so they can decide whether or not to pursue further education in the field, but many choose to stay in their position forever, as it can be just as fulfilling as any in the industry. They are often the first to meet with patients, taking their vitals and discussing their reason for visiting.

Career Opportunities

The medical field, in general, has been growing, and there are plenty of jobs available for medical assistants across the country. Medical assistant positions are in high demand, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to find a job when you’re finished with your certification.  If you finish your training and don’t believe this path is for you, or if you have experience in this area and want to do something different down the line,  you’ll also now have experience that applies to other positions. You’d be able to work in medical records, become a patient services representative, or even work as an office manager in a doctor’s office. This field is continually growing, making it more and more likely you’ll be able to find an opportunity that suits your needs.

Stability

There will always be a need for qualified medical professionals. People will always be getting sick, giving birth, needing surgery, so jobs in this field are incredibly stable. So many working professionals risk losing their jobs to automation, but a good medical assistant is irreplaceable. It’s such a personal, face-to-face job, and you’ll never have to worry about being replaced by a computer.

Time

If you desire to work in the medical field but don’t have 6+ years to dedicate to your education, medical assistantship may be the perfect path for you. Medical assistants usually need a certification to get hired, and these certifications can be completed in a year or two, depending on whether you attend school full or part-time. This is a great choice for those who work full-time and don’t have a lot of space in their schedule. If you’re able to attend school full-time and buckle down, you may even be able to complete your certification and find a job in the field in less than a year. If you search “medical assistant school near me,” you shouldn’t have a hard time finding an accredited college or university near you that provides this program.

Satisfaction

The medical field is extremely fulfilling for those looking to dedicate their lives to helping others stay happy and healthy. As a medical assistant, you’ll be responsible for meeting with patients, checking their vitals, and preparing them for a visit with their physician. As an assistant, you will not be responsible for diagnosis and treatment, which makes this career great for those who get anxious under pressure. If you feel the healthcare field is for you, but you’re uncomfortable diagnosing patients, performing surgery, or treating serious illnesses, this is a perfect way to still use your time and skills to make a difference in your community.
