Hawker: Dessertssss! Real Thai desserts! ‘Ka-nom sot sai’-s! Toddy palm cakes! Banana desserts! Desserts! Right at your doorstep!

เก่ง: น้องก้อย มากินขนมกันเถอะ คุณแม่ซื้อมาให้เราตั้งเยอะ ก้อยจะเลือกขนมอะไรอ่ะ
Geng: Nong Goi, come let’s have some desserts. Mum bought quite a lot of them for us. Goi, which dessert are you going to have?

ก้อย: ก้อยชอบกินขนมใส่ไส้ แต่เมื่อกี้ได้ยินแม่ค้าเค้า(เขา)ร้องขายว่า สอดไส้ ไหน ขอดูหน่อยซี่(สิ)ว่าเหมือนอย่างที่ก้อยชอบรึเปล่า
Goi: I like to eat ‘Ka-nom sai sai’ but just now I heard the hawker calling out that she has something ‘Sot sai’. Here, let me take a closer look; I want to see whether or not it is the same type of dessert that I like.

เก่ง: ขนมใส่ไส้ หรือ ขนมสอดไส้ ก็เหมือนกันนั่นแหละ เรียกได้ทั้งสองอย่าง
Geng: Call it ‘Ka-nom sai sai’ or ‘Ka-nom sot sai’: they’re one and the same. Both names are equally applicable.

ก้อย: ไชโย! ได้กินขนมไทยๆ สมใจแล้วหล่ะ
Goi: Hooray! I’m able to have the Thai dessert that I’ve been wanting to eat all along.

ผู้บรรยาย: ขนมสอดไส้ หรือ ขนมใส่ไส้ เป็นขนมไทยที่มีหน้าไส้กระฉีก ปั้นเป็นก้อนกลมๆ หุ้มด้วยแป้งข้าวเหนียวดำ ใส่เป็นไส้แป้งข้าวจ้าวที่ผสมกะทิและเกลือ ทำให้สุกพอข้นๆ แล้วห่อด้วยใบตองหรือใส่กระทงนึ่งให้สุก
Narrator: ‘Ka-nom sai sai’, or ‘Ka-nom sot sai’, is a Thai dessert with a filling made from almost ripe coconut that is shredded, mixed with palm sugar until it becomes glutinous, moulded into a round shape, covered with black sticky rice; which is itself covered with a mix comprising of rice flour mixed with coconut milk and salt, that is cooked until glutinous. This is then wrapped in banana leaf or placed in a small container made from banana leaf and then steamed until cooked.
