Professionally speaking, nothing disturbs me more than the needless suffering of individuals gripped by Chronic Pain. Unfortunately, the health care system, misguided societal and cultural values, as well as my own unintended biases, have contributed to this suffering. With each patient encounter, I learn more about the common and unique circumstances of those living with persistent pain. My talk will explore what I’ve learned to be a few of the primary drivers behind the pain epidemic as well as offer a few starting points for those interested in contributing to a brighter future.
