Pacman's UFC 123 Preview - Matt Hughes VS BJ Penn

Another Fight I can't wait to see at UFC 123. Matt Hughes is coming off a three fight win streak while BJ Penn is coming off two straight losses to Frankie Edgar. Penn has said that he will be entering the cage weighing about 165 for this fight. Matt Hughes will more than likely be around 180 pounds when he steps into the octagon for UFC 123. That's a considerable weight difference between the two competitors  and will more than likely dictate the way this fight will be fought. Matt Hughes who as we all know is one of the greatest wrestlers the Welterweight division has ever seen will have a 15 pound weight advantage against BJ Penn, who has good take down defence. The only problem with Penn's take down defense is that it tends to be less effective against bigger fighters. We have seen this when he fought GSP and got completely controlled and dominated by GSP's ground game. Penn has fantastic Jiu-Jitsu skills, but he's got caught up in slugfests lately instead of using the tools most of us know him best for. This could be a fatal mistake against a guy like Matt Hughes, who will no doubt try to counter any sloppy punches or kicks Penn may throw at him with take downs.Instead, Penn should try to strike first with a takedown of his own and get the dominant position. From there he can work on locking in a submission and sending Hughes home early. If Penn isn't able to take Hughes down and instead tries to throw hands with Hughes, it will leave him open to take downs by one of the best wrestlers ever in the UFC. Hughes will more than likely try to mimic the fight between Penn and GSP, if he is successful, it could be an early night for Penn.
