New York Beauty Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Hello!  Welcome to my day of the Island Batik Ambassador New York Beauty blog hop!  This is my Quilt.

Disclaimer:  The products used to make this quilt were given to me by Island Batik and industry partners.
This month's challenge and blog hop was to make a New York Beauty quilt using our "surprise" package fabrics that we received in our January Ambassador boxes.

I was lucky enough to receive Pumpkin Spice.  This collection was designed by Kathy Engle for Sarah Fabian, Quilt Basket.  It is gorgeous!  The purples, golds, greens and more are saturated with Island Batik color, and the patterns feature pumpkins, ravens, curling vines and other fabulous designs.  I'm in love!  I'm giving away some of this collection at the end of my post.  Read on.

New York Beauty quilts typically feature curved blocks with paper pieced points.  This is one of the arcs I made for my quilt.  I designed my blocks in EQ8.  If you own Electric Quilt 8 and you've never tried designing one of these, it's really quite easy and fun.  They have a special section for drawing "arc" blocks.  I highly recommend trying it out.

Here's one of my completed blocks.  I had a great time mixing up the Pumpkin Spice fabrics for the points and rainbows.  The neutral fabric I used is Rice.  I had a 6 yard cut and I used most of it for this project.

After I put all the blocks together, I cut squares from each fabric and sewed them into strips for one of the borders.

I made another pieced border with more paper piecing via these triangle strips.

When my top was all together and it was time to quilt I chose this light purple Aurifil thread.  It's #2562.

Ragamuffin supervised.  "When is my new snuggle quilt going to be ready?" she wanted to know.

I quilted a loopy meander over the surface of the quilt with my favorite, Schmetz needles.

I used Hobbs 80/20 Bleached Cotton for the batting.  It's wonderful!

It looks like summertime on my front porch.

I used this Island Batik blender fabric for the backing.

I made the binding from two of the green Pumpkin Spice fabrics.

So lovely!
