Climate

One thing you can say about the U.S, is that there is a climate for everyone; whether it is the howling Arctic Alaskan winds or the tropical heat from the beautiful Hawaiian outposts. The US climate lends itself to a multitude of outdoor pursuits from skiing on the Colorado peaks to surfing those Californian waves. Cost Of living

Obviously, this can be subjective depending on where you come from, however there are a couple of universal truths for a UK Expat. If you are relocating due to work, then check what cover your employer is offering you as this is often built into an offer of employment. On the flip side, petrol tends to be relatively cheaper than Europe on account of the culture and geographic layout of the US, which means a much larger ratio of people drive. Day to day costs such as dairy products are comparatively similar to the UK. Rents will heavily depend on which state you are in, and whether you want something within or outside of the city centre. Scenery

There really is too much to list, however we thought we would give a deferential mention to: the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, Florida Everglades (host of a very funny scene of that British Classic Only Fools and Horses!,) Niagara Falls and Lake Tahoe in Nevada. America really is a country of contrasts, whether you like to mingle and get lost in the maze of skyscrapers which litters the New York skyline, or simply take a drive through one of the Great Lakes, you will never run out of new things to do.

Culture

America has historically been a mecca for those searching their piece of the American Dream; this has led to various influences from the four corners of the globe – from Latin American, Pan Pacific, African and European cultures – all blending together to create a unique mix of cuisine, music, dance art and language. Sports also play a huge role in American culture, with the dominant sports being American Football, Baseball and Basketball. One of the pulls for many UK retirees is the many beautiful golf courses that line the Florida coastlines.
