New York City owned Buildings will have to be completely Powered by Green Energy: Solar, Wind, Hydropower, and Geothermal, by 2050 under a Bill Passed by the City Council Wednesday.
The Law says the Buildings must get Half their Power from Green Energy by 2030, before increasing to 100% in the following Decades.
The Council also signed off on installing Small Wind Turbines atop Buildings to Generate Electricity.
Council Speaker Corey Johnson (D-3rd District) said it was one step the City could take “to save our planet at a time when the federal government questions the rapid climate change we face.”
