This month, Yale School of Management welcomed 560 new master’s students to its campus to kick off a new academic year.

Those students are enrolled in programs ranging from Yale’s Master’s Degree in Systemic Risk to its new Master’s Degree in Asset Management, but the majority are part of the school’s latest MBA cohort.

The 349 students that make up Yale’s new MBA Class are an accomplished bunch, as a newly released class profile shows.

Among Yale’s Mba Class of 2023, the average GMAT is 730, with 80 percent of students having a GMAT score in the 690-760 range. The average GPA is 3.69, with an 80 percent range of 3.30-3.92.

Members of Yale’s Class of 2023 come from a diverse range of backgrounds. Forty-nine percent of those from the US are students of color while 20 percent are underrepresented students of color. Forty-four percent of the class holds international passports.

Forty-three percent of the class are women, still short of the 50 percent mark that a handful of top business schools, like Wharton, have achieved. Nine percent identify as LGBT.

Students in Yale’s latest MBA class arrive on campus with an average of 4.4 years of work experience, slightly lower than typical for other top B-schools this year.

Most often, that experience is in consulting or financial services, industries that account for 24 and 17 percent of students, respectively.

However, 14 percent of incoming students previously worked in non-profit and a further 7 percent in government. Those figures are higher than what other top MBA programs tend to report, in line with Yale SOM’s emphasis on business and society.

As far as undergraduate majors, Yale’s Class of 2023 is almost evenly split four ways between economics, business, humanities and social sciences, and STEM subjects.

Referencing the class profile, Yale emphasis that “at Yale SOM, you will always find someone in the classroom who is knowledgeable about the subjects you want to learn.”

According to Yale, “this diversity becomes a true strength and opportunity for you to broaden your horizons and your networks” as a result of the school’s “small size, supportive culture, and emphasis on working in teams.”

As an MBA applicant, your application is a chance to demonstrate that you will contribute a unique perspective to that kind of campus community.
