Mountaineering Royalty Nepal

Nepal’s climbing history goes back a long way starting with the early explorers from British India who were lured by lofty peaks and the challenges of climbing virgin peaks where no human had set foot before. By the 1960s Nepal’s trekking and mountaineering industry was well established with private companies providing all logistics including porters and guides for a full expedition that would spend months in the mountains.

Today there are many companies that will take care of every aspect of mountain climbing and all the mountaineer has to do is arrive in good shape physically and mentally, prepared to take on the challenge and not worry about equipment and supplies. Most of the Everest expeditions are handled by well-known and trusted private companies.

The government collected Rs 389.5 million in royalties from mountaineering expeditions in 2017, a growth of 27.61 percent compared to the earnings of 2016. The rise in royalty collection from mountaineering expeditions shows that the country’s tourism industry is indeed bouncing back on track after the devastating earthquakes of 2015.

The government has recently restructured Royalties of Mountain Climbing permits in Nepal. The changed royalty structure has been implemented since 1st of January 2015. The objectives of restructuring the royalty fees are in order to stimulate climbing tourism to make competitive with neighboring counties, to promote mountain climbing in remote locations, and to encourage mountaineering/climbing all year round.
