Looking for different things to do in London - How about the Monopoly Pub crawl?

Visiting London for a few days with friends? Have a little spare time to hand after viewing all the usual attractions? Then why not try one of the most challenging different things to do in London, the “Monopoly Pub Crawl” and see London in a totally different light. It’s an exciting and enjoyable undertaking but one that should be undertaken with a certain degree of responsibility, after all there are a total of 26 pubs to visit that take you on a route that remains faithful to the “Monopoly Board Game”. Otherwise your mates could make the top of your head look like a face!!!

For the novice drinker the route is best enjoyed over a number of days and broken down into sections as per the board but for the more accomplished drinkers it’s possible to race around the route taking in half a pint at each pub and still be standing at the end of it all. Top Tip: If attempting the route on a single day consider half's not pints, also please don’t forget to eat plenty and drink lots of water and above all stay safe as the night draws in when crossing the busy roads.

To cover the 26 pubs scattered around London requires a reasonable amount of useful sobering up time travelling between the different venues so it’s best to purchase a ZONE 1-2 Travelcard. The Railway Stations are optional because they divert you off the preferred route and you may run out of time if attempting to go around the board in one visit. Checkout the attached link for the best Monopoly Pub Crawl Route.

Let the fun and adventure start and where else or better than first one on the board Old Kent Road and a visit to The George situated on Tower Bridge Road close to Old Kent Road this pub opens at 10.30 on Saturday especially to give you a flying start on the pub crawl. To get around the first section of the board requires visits to The Aldgate Exchange at Whitechapel, The Duke of York known previously as Coopers at the optional Kings Cross Station onto The Old Red Lion at The Angel Islington and The O’Neills on Euston Road. There’s little time to catch your breath and then back on the road to the last one on the first straight The Castle on Pentonville Road.

Well that’s the first section completed go past the “Jail” and onto Pall Mall and the first on this section of the board The Red Lion a small and cosy relaxing pub with a nice selection of beers. There’s a lot of drinking to be had on this section with visits to The Lord Moon of the Mall at Whitehall, The Sherlock Holmes at Northumberland Avenue, The Victoria & Albert at Marylebone Station, The Marquess of Anglesey at Bow Street, O'Neills on Marlborough Street and last on this section The Leicester Arms located near to Vine Street or the alternative The Warwick. Selection of beers on offer on this section include Budweiser Budvar, Youngs Bitter, Oregon Amber, and Youngs Special, Black Sheep, Greene King IPA, London Pride, Waggledance, Boddingtons, Sherlock Holmes Ales, Flowers Original, and Old Speckled Hen,

Congratulations you made it to the top of the board, now is a good time to call it a day if you have been drinking pints especially if you have more spare time to complete the challenge tomorrow. If you feel the need for a lay down, don't do it in the street, take a look at some of our partners budget hotels in London instead! However if you have took it steady, paced yourself and drank half’s instead of pints you just might make it all the way round!

So off we go first port of call is The Wellington on The Strand it is quite a busy place with a long thin bar, if the weather is nice it’s the ideal venue for sitting outside and enjoying your drink before moving on to Fleet Street and Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese a quaint old pub dating back to 1667. Onwards to Trafalgar Square and the Halfway to Heaven pub for another top up before continuing to another of the optional drinking holes The Fen at Fenchurch Station. Still feeling OK? Cool well lets keep going onto the last three at the top of the board The Moon Under Water at Leicester Square, The Comedy on Coventry Street and Biagio at Piccadilly. Be careful and don’t get too boisterous, bear in mind you are right next to “Go To Jail” you have been warned! Favourite tipples available on this section are Selection of Youngs, Old Speckled Hen, Bass, London Pride, Sam Smith’s Old Brewery Bitter, Theakstons XB, Courage and a cocktail bar at Biagio .

If you managed to make it this far you are on the last leg of this mammoth adventure and will probably stagger to the finishing post. Places and pubs to look forward to on this final straight are All Bar One in Regent Street, just off Oxford Street try The Spread Eagle, or The Last Bid both in Woodstock Street and swiftly on if you can manage it into Bond Street and the Hogshead. Now at this point if you are attempting the optional stations it’s time to divert to Liverpool Street Station and the ornately decorated Hamilton Hall. Keep going the finishing line is within your grasp but by now time will be running out especially if you took in all the stations. Drag those weary and dysfunctional legs for a little longer onto Park Lane and The Rose & Crown, down your drinks ladies and gentlemen with heads held high teeter into Mayfair and the Ye Grapes located at Shepherd's Market a lovely old pub to finish this the greatest drinking challenge in London. Drinks available on this section, although at this stage you probably won’t care or taste the difference are London Pride, Greene King IPA, Bombardier, Courage, William Younger’s Scotch Ale, Old Thumper, Doom Bar, Abbots Ale, and Theakston Best.

Congratulations to all who have freely taken part in this the greatest of challenges; you have unknowingly just become a Legend in your own Right! Definitely one of the best different things to do in London, ensuring a good time had by all!!
