First time diving in the Maldives

The Maldives is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and it’s also one of the best places to go Diving in. Now, if you’re a first-time diver, there’s no need to worry – here’s a look at all the basic facts you need to know about diving in the Maldives.

When to Go

First off, you’ll need to decide on when you want to visit the Maldives. You can dive throughout the year in the Maldives but if you’re a beginner, aim for the period between November and May. During these months the seas are calm and the weather remains fairly stable.

Where to Go

Now, there are plenty of diving spots to choose from in the Maldives. If you’re staying at one of the islands’ prominent resorts – say, for instance, the Saii Lagoon Maldives – you should always check if the resort offers its own tours. Generally, atolls like South Male and Lhaviyani are perfect for beginner divers.

There are several safety guidelines and rules that you’ll have to adhere to when diving in the Maldives. These range from the depth you’re allowed to dive to, to the equipment you need to carry with you. Be sure to read up on everything before you take the plunge.
