True crime can leave a false trail.

He’s definitely hiding something.

When Brynn gets an internship working on a popular true-crime show, she decides to investigate what really happened that day in the woods. But the further she dives into the past, the more secrets she finds.

MY THOUGHTS

I am a big lover of high school murder mysteries but the last couple of books of KMM left me wanting. Things and stories started to feel a bit predictable and repetitive, especially The Cousins. I am glad that this book took a new path for good.

Brynn is returning to her old school that she left after the death of the student’s favorite teacher. At the same time, Brynn also got the internship in motive, a true crime show. She pitched the story of her teacher’s death as it didn’t get media coverage. It is the perfect time for her to spy on all three students who found his body and one of them is Brynn’s ex-best friend.

Tripp is Brynn’s ex-best friend and a scholarship kid. He lives with his father after her mother abandoned them after claiming that she is not made for this mother role. Shane and Charlotte are sweethearts since eighth grade and they are together all time. Both come from rich and powerful families. After the incident, they took Tripp under their wings and this trio is going strong.

I really like the plot, it was interesting yet believable. There were enough twists to keep me hooked. Brynn was kind of different, driven yet considerate about people around him, many would disagree but I felt that. Tripp and Brynn’s relationship was cute and I really enjoy their parts. Charlotte and Shane both gave me chills throughout both, they both had some eerie air around them. The author threw so many curve balls throughout the story and I loved that .  I totally loved the character development, it was easy to understand where everyone is coming from. The ending was so shocking yet realistic and I can totally see it happening in the real life.
